“When you have incompetent at the top, that can lead to, obviously, incompetent on the ground”

The rot starts at the top.

It's always the case.

The incompetent boss hires incompetent employees and so on.

It's their country. They elected the person in charge and they live with the consequences. If don't like, then next time they better elect another one.

And I do agree as foreigners they are just guests. If the new hosts don't like you, they are free to remove you. It's the same here. We remove/bar people with extremist views.

Congratulation to a rather STUPIAK President.

US exports lot of services which reduces its trade deficit.

Education being 1 sector .

Make America GONG again

it also depends on the school leadership. Those ivy league colleges have had it coming for a long time.

They had a long time to change and refused, hundreds of millions in tax payer dollars too.

Her mum was a model.

Was watching some YouTube short that said attractive parents = high chance for attractive daughters. But not really for sons. Just masculine fathers (strong jaw) give rise to masculine sons.

In most tertiary institutes, the full paying international students contribute more to the bottom line.

Not saying they can't control who goes into the country on a student visa, but the vast majority of those coming in are contributing lots of money to your economy. And the best and brightest stay on and become even more productive.

You don't want free loaders and trouble makers etc sure. But they are just on a visa, they aren't citizens, they aren't even green card.

Anyway it's just a reaffirmation of their inward looking policy.

imo... the freezing of the int students for Harvard now is not all colleges, but its just the most public talking point, and the most tender balls to hit Havard where it hurts and make it follow.

The physical intimidation and anti semetism against jewish students is plenty bad enough, but there were many staff actually supporting and  taking part. Their smug arrogant behavior when questioned in congress was reallyyyy asking for it.

Other colleges still business as usual afaik.

If this happened in NUS or NTU, i dont think it would be allowed to get anywhere near as far, it wouldnt mean we are inward looking 🤷‍♂️

There is a serious delay in visa interview now.

Read the article. They are halting ALL student visa applications temporarily.

This is 杀鸡儆猴。

I don't really care either way but what you are saying this is business as usual for the rest is not true.

This appears cold war like. But it's two pronged. It's also a not subtle attack on all tertiary institutions to weaken their hold and influence over intellectual and political issues.

I attack one of your major sources of income to let you know who's boss.

Finding people to come over and pay the exorbitant university fees is not so easy. Maybe the rich Arabs can afford it. But the Chinese, many common folk essentially spend their entire retirement funds to get their kids an overseas education. Not every culture values the brand of a overseas education so much.
