True, some people with big families or like big space, don't mind to stay in HDB, no need to upgrade to private/EC. Just buy an EA/EM and stay there forever. Last era EA/EM are very big and spacious. Size of the flat can be as big as 146sqm.

Yeah. Stayed 10 plus years in my parents' EA. Even now CNY most visitors are still impressed with the huge living/dinning area. 20-30 plus pax at the same time also can.

HK and JP culture is most don't even invite colleagues to own house..

They only have gathering at F&B venues.

Unlike SG, when we move new house will have house warming inviting friends and colleagues.

Hk and Jap their house nothing to show off, so cannot invite people to the house.

In sg, most people house reno until super nice, super ex and house big big, so must show off to people. 😂

My 1st BTO, master bedroom can't put king size bed, that's why knock down wall and combine 2 bedroom into one.

I think main complain is bedroom size.

Ya, all bedroom size are small, even though the sqm of the flat is about the same as old hdb.

Example a 3 rm flat. Old 3 rm size is around 65sqm and new 3 rm size is around 67sqm, but the interior size of the house for the new 3 rm totally much smaller than the old 3 rm.

Flats sizes these days are all first world problems la ... Grew up staying in a 4 room HDB with 1 common toilet and 1 shower room , at any time , 10 pax staying , for 3-4 years 14 pax stayed there together without issues lo ...

Stay 2,500 sqft condo for 3 pax with 1 helper  , wife complain house too small .....

Agreed, last time inside house only have 1 toilet bowl and 1 shower rm with more than 5 people staying, no complain and issue.

But now only 2-3 persons staying in the same house, ended up quarrelling and black face everyday over the toilet.

Must minus aircon ledge and service yard... Probably less 5sqm already.

Haha Last time you turn over in your sleep and your arm is lying over your siblings face is considered normal. Now no such thing! First world problem.

But there are people living in one room flats who live like that.

Strangely, I like the bare minimalist look of the Japanese ryokan houses over the 100-200k reno of some fancy HDB houses.

Sleep tatami, no need big big bed. Eat at a small table, no need big big dining table..

Little maintenance, easy to clean, less stress.

That's how one can get long life.....

😆

Is it self-fulfilling prophecy? Flats small so people don't want big families (because no space).

Like, I mean, if I know there's a possibility of getting an EA-size flat at reasonable price, it might be a consideration to have children to make use of the space.

Don't understand even less 5sqm or not, insider the house still smaller than those old 3 rm flat. Some old 3 rm flat the size is only 59sqm and yet the bedrooms are bigger than those new bto 3 rm bedrooms.

Some people even buy a big house also don't have children. Two persons staying only. As some people simply like to stay in a roomy and big size house. And these people should have money to hire maid to clean up the house, so don't mind staying such a big house. For me i rather stay a smaller house cause i don't have money to hire maid to do clean up. Cleaning up a 4 rm and above flat is tiring.

@Atonchia I would like to add that it should really depends on individual preference. I've had colleagues who "hint" that I should invite them to "my place". I straightway turn them down because we're just colleagues, and the place that I am living in does not belong to me. I am not sure, but it did come across as "rude" to me - when someone "self-invited" themselves to someone place.

I've had immediate, and local friends in SG - and therefore I know that it is a culturally things to invite your friends and relative over for festive - like CNY. Not sure if I did come across as "rude" and "impolite" - but yeah. I personally don't quite like the way HK way of life and practice.

This is what I meant - in SG, most family buy house of the bigger (size) and have proper renovation done - so that they can invite and raise their families properly. Whether cats or dogs or children or have their senior family member staying over. @13177: really know how SG's live their life.

Not only that they were dirty and old. We have conversation and there are comments that HK people don't like to go home because their home is very small. Go home damn pek chek. So only go back to sleep only.

On one occasion, I remember one of my ex-boss says - HK people don't need to use remote, because stick out the leg can press the TV. Haha

Sorry folks, it's not racist but comments are related to the country and the people who thinks they are superior.

I say a fair word on them, they are competitive. But that's it

I don't know about HKer - but they always thought they are more superior, with an "air" of superiority. Surely, you also need a place to rest isn't it? One things about them - they are smart, very hardworking and competitive - some are quite nice people. But I think being too competitive at the expense of humanity is "no-go" for me. There is a line between adoping an "aggressive" stance and adoping a "passive" stance.

Those that have lived in SG for quite a while are actually quite okay people. But the older one - can be still quite entitled and proud.

To think they all run from China to HK and be free over there, they are superior than others in Mainland. But don't forget, they used to belong to mainland and then they are now returned to mainland. That and again, that is their problem.

To make them think they are superior than others from other countries. Don't lah

Anyway, I do maintain I have only one HK friend who is here is Tomyam land and teaches me to golf all my life. Even when I got a MY friend is US and his wife is HKer, I never talk to her at all.
