Thailand weather generally are very hot. Unless in the mountain area.

Northern Thailand can have very bad yearly air pollution, need to plan to avoid.

Been considering thailand for short trips. I encountered haze the last time we went pre-covid.

As with many countries, air pollution in Thailand is very seasonal. This is especially true in the country’s northern regions, where crop burning usually occurs between December and April, leading to the extreme levels of air pollution that have recently made the news worldwide.

These same months tend to be the worst in the capital, Bangkok too. However, while this is partly due to the fires found in the north, it’s also due to the weather patterns during this period of the year. AQICN is a great source for historical air quality data, and it shows January, February, and to a lesser degree, March and December as being the worst months of the year for air pollution in Bangkok.

Bangkok historical air pollution. Data from AQICN.

On the other hand, the months of May – September tend to have significantly better air quality, with the peak of summer (June and July) having significantly cleaner air than any other month. This trend doesn’t apply solely to the capital but can also be seen in the country’s northern areas, including Chiang Mai.

If you’re planning a trip to Thailand and worried about air pollution, visiting during the summer, if possible, is advisable. If this isn’t an option, try your best to avoid January – April, as these are the months of severe air pollution, especially in the north.

I just come back from Phuket in wrong period.. monsoon season! cannot go snorkel. Didn't go Potong Beach instead Phuket Old Town, something like Malacca, Lard Yai night market on Sunday only, spent a night there then took a public bus to Khao Lak, went bamboo rafting and elephant bathing. As non peak period so not much crowds, will go back for similan island snorkelling tour

If you are thinking of that many days, why not drive up from Singapore ?

Was thinking about it but must switch from right hand to left hand drive and in a right hand drive car... I think a bit too much to take? Plus my car 8+years old... don't want to risk breaking down badly...

Not daunting la.

It is just whether you are physically up to the task or not

More concerned about road safety and car reliability... that's why daunting lar... also first time mah... not familiar with roads in Thailand... will have to read up a lot...

I think I'll probably fly between places unless I can rent a car and do the driving...

Bro, you planned too much.

If i can whack MY2011 Mit Triton at 140km/h, what's the problem with your car?

Don't overthink.  Just Do It.

i rather fly to each city and rent a car there, but not in bkk cos public transport and grab is good enough.

i book a transport with driver to Hua Hin then rent a car to go around the outskirt, same for phuket.

chiang mai i will take grab and book day tour to visit the national park and temples on various day, suppose to be stress free n easy [cool]

You driving up to Phuket, BKK and Chang Mai from SG? You need to prepare at least 3 weeks to 1 month of leave.

Driving there is pretty chill. Roads are good. Petrol almost same price as SG thou.

December is the main tourist season in Thailand where the ang mo migrate from their winter land.
