I understand that EV will auto start when you get into the car and sit on the driver seat, but if you get off the seat, it would not switch off until you lock the door. Most are like this, but somehow VW and BMW (which turn off when door is open, also annoying but slightly less) just want to be different.

Can toggle it to auto or manual (button). I still havent decided which one I prefer. Your little BYD? How little ah? Cannot believe an EV would have an start/stop button to on and off the car like petrol car siah?! Lol.

I don't understand why it turn off when door is open? Thought should turn on when door is open, cause getting in the car to drive off le. 😅 Anyway, i always thought the newer EV now, their charging point either at the back or at the side near the driver door. Today i saw this Omoda E5 charging at a charging point, the charging point is right at the front bonnet, how come still so 'old sch' design. Lol. Turn off when exit the car la LOL Interesting point about the charging port location. My sorta understanding from my knowledge of car industry is that it is decided by the car designer/engineer based on what they perceive the target customer to be. Those in the front one, mostly targeted at rural customers where they more likely to park head in. Those charging port at the rear, usually are aimed at urban drivers who generally park backside in. Agar agar is like this la. But of course not all follow like this.

Lol. Some people if open door get into car and take tissue or wallet or condom or cigarette, would prefer the car not turn on automatically and mobile phone connect, carplay/AA auto turn on and blast techno music, plus air con auto on, plus electric seat adjust to driving position preset plus steering wheel adjust to driving position etc. etc. Got million and one scenarios de. You get your EV you will understand. So best is to give the driver the option to toggle. Thats why I say I still havnt decided I prefer auto or manual, cos some scenario i wan this other i wan that. steveting99 3rd Gear February 19 Author Share February 19 Been looking at various hatchbacks on offer - with the new Aion UT recently becoming available. Hence wanted to check on Chery's Omoda E5. Below is the comparison table from SG Car Mart. Compared to the competition, the Omoda E5 is looking quite decent. Vertex has managed to sell a lot in the month of Jan-2026 (226 units) and if this run rate continues will exceed last years sales figure (623) in the next three months - so April time frame. Not too sure if it's the Omoda E5 or the Jaecoo J6 that's leading the sales figure. Should be seeing more of Chery vehicles on the roads in 2026. steveting99 3rd Gear February 19 Author Share February 19 Based on this article from Drive Safe & Fast (Malaysia): https://www.dsf.my/2025/12/why-did-chery-come-out-with-this-ev-battery-advert-today/, the high voltage battery on the Omoda E5 comes from BYD and is the blade type. Also mentioned by Electrifying (UK) review of the Omoda E5 here: https://www.electrifying.com/reviews/omoda/5/review Comparison between the Omoda E5 vs. BYD's Atto 3 with confirmation that it's using the same BYD Blade battery from FinDreams:
steveting99 3rd Gear March 30 Author Share March 30 New version of the Omoda E5 for 2026 in RHD model has been released via the Bangkok International Motor Show (BIMS). Pics are below. Called the C5 EV over in the land of smiles. The front has some changes to reflect "shark nose" design. Different tail light design compared to the older model. Still has the charging port in the front, but shifted slightly to the right side. The license plate is lower to the ground compared to previous model. Still uses traditional mechanical door handles - hooray! The small front trunk is still there - maybe squeeze a few durians in there. The big change is on the inside. Steering wheel is now two spoke with scroll wheels with a few buttons. Gone are the twin 10.25" screens and in it's place is a 15.6" touch-screen and an 8.8" instrument panel. A prominent grab handle fuses into the central air vents and the cupholders are now hexagon-shaped. The rear seats still seem to be a bit tight will not much leg and foot space below the front seats. Boot looks decent. New model features include dual-layer front windows with noise reduction (same as previous model), a 540 deg camera (same as previous model), driver’s seat massage (new), eight Sony speakers, multi-link rear suspension and 19 ADAS functions (+1 more than the older model). Apparently the high voltage battery capacity has shrunk down to 50.6kWhr battery and that's going to affect range...☹️ Used to be 61 kWhr with 430km WLTP range. Not much else is known on the new 2026 Omoda E5. Will post a follow once information is available.
