my FPR is a new one.. 10 mths old.

last night when tank was empty, I heard "pom pom" and felt the car jerk and surge a bit while car was stationary.

Top up fuel and this morning crank to start.. waited at slip road to go out and that's where car just died. Unable to crank for at least 5 mins.

Waited awhile and miraculosly it fired up ok.... drove a fair bit and at a slight slope, car died again without any warning.

This time it managed to fire up ok... and there after no sign of the problem again.

Mech took it for a spin (I think he empty half of my tank already mad.gif) and found nothing.

He said might be fuel pump becoz response for the car not so good. (he's quite familiar with my model)

Checked fuel pressure and said OK.

Checkec alternator, battery, coil, distributor, voltage rectifier.. all ok.

anyone have more clues ? Me dying without car... like fish out of water. So blur when took MRT. thumbsdown.gif

YOu said you hear "POM POM".. could it be spark plug misfire..

Take out your spark plug, see if the ceremic is brown.. maybe spark plug faulty. Best, change to a new set of spark plugs, they are not expensive and see if you have this problem.

Once EPTUNG pass me one set of spark plug which he claimed faulty, i did not believe and had irregular RPM, sudden jerks..

If the fuel pressure is OK over various RPM, I think can rule out fuel pump assembly i.e. the fuel filer, harness, pressure valve, regulator..

my 2 cents.

Just to share with you how I learnt the hard way..

I changed the Fuel Filter 1 year ago. For my rolla, to change the filter, you need to dismentle the entire fuel pump system take out the pump, filter, o-rings and valve and put back to the new filter harness. So, techincally, you are using back the old parts.

In your case, your valve and o-rings are re-used, only the pump and filter could be new.

So, happily for 8 months, suddenly I had problems starting up my car. Each time I bring to agent, they cannot replicate the problem cos the car is rested and the oil ring (I think), with no pressure build up, goes back in shape and place.

THe agent as long as can start car and cannot replicate, they give you excuses. they don't take your car for 30 mins drive to see if the problem re-surface. Left with the agent for 2 days, and they told me no problems.. (true, engine is cold.. )

Until one fine day, my day told me to take out the entire fuel system assembly then I realised that the o-ring is out of shape. Lester once told me that low grade fuel can cos the o-ring to deform under prolong pressure or heat.

So, maybe you can learn something from me. The Fuel Pump is not totally new if you re-use old parts.

cheers.

Mech checked sparks.. A-ok.

The pom sound was not quite loud, but coud feel the surge while stepping on brakes. RPM also dipped when that happened.

My FPR came with O-ring.. so it's new. Also no petrol smell in engine bay after a long hard drive, so unlikely any O-ring is worn out.

Wanted to check fuel cleanliness, but mech dun have the means to check..also my tank is full... (maybe not after he drove it) Some contaminants could have clogged the pump. Will leave it overnight for him to check tomorrow. *sigh*

The plugs which EPTUNG gave me was faulty was fresh out of box, unable to see any fault at all. If you still have this problem, may consider changing plugs..

Pardon me, I am familiar with COnti car.. my thoughts are just based on experience Jap cars.

cheers.

somehow the bouncing on each 4 sides is different. A few mechs and friends have said the suspension feels worn out...

Anyway I think it's due for change. Probably replace bushings as well.

waiting for u to do 'bounce' test.. but always so busy.tongue.gif
