Pisces69 6th Gear April 5, 2007 Share April 5, 2007 I think I got it wrong about the mfg date. I observe another set of alphnumerics of about 11 digits. Think this should be the DOT code. The last 4 digit is 5006. Another wheel is 5206. The 0301 is an isolated number. So i think the mfg date should be 50/52 week yr 2006 rather than 03wk yr 2001. The wheels looks new to me. Wonder what does 0301 mean? This new set of tyres is quieter than my stock tyre and over long distance highway do feel more comfort ride. But acceleration is slightly less willing and climbing upslope feels more pullback. And FC is worsen. Just feel that my ride would be more quieter and no compromise on the accelaeration and minimum FC worsening if I got 175/65/14. ====================== OK. So the mfg date sud be in end 2006, which is quite good then. Enjoy your new tyres. ↡ Advertisement
Pisces69 6th Gear April 5, 2007 Share April 5, 2007 not too sure about this but $100 for 15 inch seems on the expensive side...where did u get that quote from? for the GR80 tyre size and profile of 175/65 R14 @ $50 each.. is this really a good deal? i was quoted this amazing price by a tyre shop... =================== This price is very good. Even the size of 175/65/14 is not a common size. Check if it is a defective tyre b4 u buy.
Weixiang_06 Clutched April 5, 2007 Share April 5, 2007 actually i tot so, how come so cheap? thinking whether could it be some old stock? i am driving a vios where the stock tyre is 175/65/14, that's why i am looking at getting the same tyre size back... Shern25 2nd Gear April 5, 2007 Share April 5, 2007 I am driving vios too. Though I initially feel regretfull to get 185/60/14, now i am fully satisfied. wider base and smaller aspect ratio can kill FC, more road noise (but still quieter than the stock tire), and poorer acceleration. But the real advantage is more precise handling, more effective brake, more grip and above all, much smoother ride on expressway over 100km/hr. Suit just nice for me as a family man who needs to travel PIE quite often and good to know my car is more safer to drive. If you don't mind 185/60/14, go get michelin PS2 which there is one MCF member here claim this is more quieter than GR80. Too bad it does not have 175/65/14. Furrynadz 5th Gear April 24, 2007 Share April 24, 2007 PP2 will win in terms of grip, dry handling, wet handling, dry braking, wet braking lose out (or rather on par) for comfort and quietness gr80 is way over-rated also, like f1
Suxelis Neutral Newbie April 25, 2007 Share April 25, 2007 My experience, changing from GR80 to PP2: PP2 wins on comfort too. As for noise, its slightly noiser on the very slow speeds, but quieter on coarse expressways. However, the GR80 grips pretty well for a comfort tire, and does not get noisier by much over most of its life. PP2 is excellent and surprisingly sticky. Definately better in the wet. Latioboy 1st Gear April 25, 2007 Share April 25, 2007 assumptions i make 1) by posting in a car forum, u should be either an interested car buyer or have a car 2) since u lookin for tyres, assumption 1) holds true, and that u have a car 3) u have 2 arms to steer, 2 legs to drive, 2 eyes to see the road 4) u can get into your car, start the engine, drive to the nearest tyre shop, autobacs, stamford tyres or wat not 5) u can ask the shop owner/staff if they do have gr80 6) u can read the recent postings that indeed gr80 is STILL in stock, NOT obselete, and u can indeed buy them OR maybe my assumptions are wrong, and thats very sad...*cough* the gr80 is aka "regno gr8000" in nipponland, and the sizes are available here http://item.rakuten.co.jp/nf/c/0000000613/ , with pics too its UTQG should be 280-a-a u can google "bridgestone regno 8000" for more info Somehow, i notice that you, furry, you are just pissed with people asking questions donchas?
