Hi! Xhristy,

welcome to MCF [nod][thumbsup]

care to explain further? is it a pump failure (brake refuse to unlock after release) or wheel lock only (brake release after u release the brake but wheel lock on brake pressed)?

Firstly, I would like to know how old is your car, or is it a new car confused.gifconfused.gifconfused.gif.

2nd, is the tyre worn sweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gifsweatdrop.gif.

3rd, it's obvious that the wheel locks up as you jam the brakes, it's normal as that will happen unless ABS cuts in nod.gifnod.gifnod.gif.

and lastly, since the road is wet, you should have kept a slightly longer safety distance from the car infront nod.gifPosted ImagePosted Image (so, no offence Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image), worst still if it's a taxi, as they know that if you bang into their rear, you are always in the wrong & the Taxi driver can claim loss of income on top of the damages Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image, it's like taking 'paid leave' from work Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Hi, as the others have advised,

you'd probably had a wheel-lock situation in which the pads get stuck to the discs. It's a dangerous situation as u would lose control of the steering movement to your car.

glad that there was no accident involved.

perhaps you could do a check on your pads and disc brakes to see if they're still ok. Sudden hard braking can wear the pads and discs, making them brittle. ie the extreme heat from the contact between pads and discs can be damaging.

try to do some e-brake (on an empty stretch of road) and check for it's effectiveness. If it's ok, then it's good news. Else have them replaced.

From what you've described. It seems that you have a wheel lock. Conditions then (wet ground) makes it more likely to happen than dry. When you have a wheel lock, you will lose control of your car. You can't steer and you can't stop and it's mighty scary! [sweatdrop]

I would assume that your car does not have ABS, or else you would have told a different story.

First things first. Have your tyres checked and have them changed if needed.

Next is how to minimise wheel lock in future. The way to do it is to pump your brakes in rapid succession. This is sort of like creating your own manual ABS. It's like brake and before the wheels has a chance to lock, release brake, and brake again.

Just my $0.02.

Just to add on ... if u drive a manual , in rainy conditions .... its good to use the drop gear engine brake method to prevent such lockups.
