Cashiertan Neutral Newbie January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 This is for the MCF brudders here. Those who like to go to Malaysia to do something to their car, be known that the price they quoted SG ppl are 20% to 200% more than what the locals paid. I was once quoted RM2k for total overhauling my old Proton. i thought it was relatively cheap and was about to pay when found that i did not have enough RM$. the shop is willing to accept SG$ at 2:1 rate. the rate than was ard 2.11:1 and i refused becoz that .11 is quite alot. so i decide to put it on hold. one mth pass and i was on my way to that shop to do the overhauling. this time, i was sending my relative to his hme in malaysia and he offered to help me overhaul the car for me at a cheaper rate. When we reach his hse, he swap his car plate with mine and told me to wait at his hse for the good news. guess what, he came back with the receipt from the same shop stated RM$1k!!! i was like f@#king piss off but he told me it is common as the mechanic like to charge higher prices for naive and ignorant Singaporean. what we thought as cheap is not the true as what we precieved. so be smart and careful guys ↡ Advertisement
Genie47 1st Gear January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 Or get a Singaporean who is in very good terms with the mechanic there. Intro with good price with the friendly Singaporean there. From then on, the mechanic will keep those prices. Just need to have the contacts. Check the car clubs in Delphiforums and here. Sometimes there isn't a need to go thru such clandestine ops. If you go there by yourself, you WILL GET SLAUGHTERED! Get the "guanxi" going first.

Yeobh 4th Gear January 29, 2004 Share January 29, 2004 It mean guys who have no proper set-up to conduct the service business. In the good old days many mechanics provide services under the tree canopy or at the back of their attap houses.
Hitman Neutral Newbie January 30, 2004 Share January 30, 2004 If I was a JB Malaysian mechanic .. I'd probably do the same. When opportunity comes knocking ... why not ?? Its the same here .... if tourists were to buy a camera from Far East Plaza , you can just guess how much they are charged. Yes we have CASE , but that is when complains arise. Many more cases do not go to CASE cause the tourist dun even know CASE exists. People in business are there to make money .... and good guys only win in the movies.
