Hi Guys,

Ya agree. Considering both car are made in Thailand, by reputable brand names. I would say both are on par with different style, target group (slightly) and of cos different set of problems.

ANyone know whats the latest deal package (Specs) for Optra (A)? Think the price getting closer to Altis....

Altis Vs Optra , altis is better ???

To me :

- altis price is never better

- altis acceleration is never better

- altis FC is only slightly better by 1-2 km/l

- altis handling is one of the worst

The only better thing I found in Altis is its interior and dashboard .

BUt the more expensive Altis is never free from another set of problems .

Not sure about price wise... but looking at the feedback on the optra with regards to the RPM problem... I think Altis holds its own here. Cos the engine is still the most important component of a vehicle IMO. Altis engine is very problem free. I for one am very happy with it with regards to reliability and FC. I get 14km/l. unless you're telling me an auto optra can get 12km/l. I think your stats need revising.

The altis acceleration can be better than the optra. It depends whether your ECT is on. I don't think Optra has an ECT option. But I do agree the altis' handling is too "comfy". The car is built around the passenger not the driver... but at least I don't have to bite my fingers thinking there's something wrong with the engine!

But if you ask me to choose between the altis/optra again. I would still choose the altis.

Btw, yes the auto optra can achieve 12 km/l. I average 11 km/l, and my best has approached very near 12 km/l, bearing in mind that I have quite a mix of light driving (light footed) and sporty driving, 60% city, 40% highway.

The Optra's RPM problem has nothing to do with the engine ,

the root cause is from the ECU's software or a dirty throttle body .

Altis VVTI engine is never 100% problem free , reported problem is the VVTI timing gone haywire and it's very costly and time consuming to retune the engine .

Altis 1.6 with super ECT on , 0-100km/h = 11.7 secs

Optra 1.6 using sport modes , 0-100km/h = 11.5 secs

Altis 1.8 with super ECT on,0-100km/h=10.0 secs(tested by US Car & Driver mag)

Optra 1.8 using sport modes,0-100km/h=10.7 secs(tested by Aussie Road Transport Dept)

Which is better ,since I'm not a boy racer , I can't really tell the diff .

Altis is built around the passengers , but some do feel sea sick in this car due to its wobbly cost cutting suspensions .
