Auto GearBox

Hi guys...need your advise.

 

Comparing auto gear box for replacement, which is a better choice:

a. Recon from S'pore scrapyard (was told that it was used for 7 yrs)

b. Import from Japan (scrap from Japan...used for 3 yrs)

 

Is CAS a recommendable place for changing the auto gearbox? Or any recommend workshop?

 

BTW...I am driving '92 Civic 1.5 LSi.

depends on the price ba. maybe go over to JB and try, could even fetch u a lower price.

There's a shop specialising in repair/change of trans.

 

They always advertise in the papers, maybe you can check them out.

frankly speaking i'm not v sure. but how long is ur ride until? using a old gearbox where ppl use for 7 yrs is risk of it breaking down again. maybe some fellow MCF could help u wif this.

forget about changing and ave the $$$, scrap your car and use the $$$ to buy another 2-3 years used auto car lah....

not all cars' owners will take this option, but still think it is better not to repair loh..

Guess time have changed, like in Japan, drive in a 3 year old car and drive out a brand new one.

Hi...was told by CAS mech that the gearbox is imported from Japan that has been used for 3 yrs then the car was scrapped (Is this the norm in Japan?). And not from our S'pore scrap yard. How to check?

 

How is CAS workmanship? Any comments.

Wat i know is the Japs Govt encourage more than three year old car to be scrapped/re-exported, to help the local car industries.

That's true. But there are plenty of old cars outside big cities.

thats why you dont see much garages in Japan, simply nothing much to repair....

try not to get a re-cond one from s'pore scrap yard.

 

Most jap cars would be scrapped within 3 yrs. Either way, the transmission would be around 10yrs anyway.

 

If you are going CAS, just make sure they check the condition of the gears and seals before installing to your ride. And insist on a reasonable warranty period.

 

Another option is for you to have yr existing transmission stripped apart and replace all the stuff inside....

CAS gives a 3 months warranty and quoted me abt $900.

 

Not sure if it would be cheaper to repair the gearbox?
