My current stock tyres are 205/65R15 and thinking of upgrading to a 16" rims, but got different feedbacks from different tyres companies.... So basically seeking the Bros here on their opinions on this....

For 215/55R16, the width of the tyres is bigger therefore more contact area with the ground during dry weather, but increase chances of skidding during wet weather... Not sure whether it will increase the fuel economy??? [confused]

Check out this website @ http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html for more info... Thanks !!

upgrading your rims +1" would have quite a negligible effect on fuel consumption, though you would not expect the same.

but, this upgrade might punish your acceleration. say for example, if your ride specs is 10secs to 100km/h, this upgrade might reduce this to say 10.2secs to 100km/h. theoretically [scholar] *** Any PhD bros out there to correct me???

also, the bigger the size of tyres, the more expensive. your total maintenance cost would increase if your tyre change schedule remains the same... it does appear that bigger size tyres last longer if your driving patterns are unchanged.

i am keeping to 205/60 R15 because my ride is only a mere 102bhp. lose alot of Jap brothers at the traffic light already.

Bigger is Better! [thumbsup]

Anyway.. if the tyre pattern is good, no worries during wet weather.. [nod]

But ....of course the fuel consumption will be worse... but it's not very significant.

Think of it as the price for having better grip (and safety) [sly]

cheers

215 sounds big for a 16" but will still be smaller by 0.71% overall compared to the OEM size u mentioned. (your speedo will clock faster too) You'll probably experience slightly more drag (and noise) from the wider contact patch and a remote chance that u might experience some minor scraping if the depth & width of the wheel arches are not deep enough. In terms of comfort, 55 is still pretty thick so should be quite comfy still. The slight reduction in fuel economy for doing a +1 upgrade to achieve slightly better looks, handling and steering feel is worth it, IMHO.

Since you have the tyre calculator, just get the one that's closest to the stock diameter/circumference. Anything significantly off will affect the speedo.

Bigger tyre meand bigger contact patch means more grip/drag which also means higher fuel consumption. There's always a tradeoff.

205/60 16" will give you a +0.8% difference in drive ratio while the 215/55 16" will give you a -0.7%. Both difference is not significant and I guess both advise given to you are correct. It's down to personal choice then. 205 will give you the comfort and better fuel consumption while 215 will give you better handling and stability.

Just my $0.02.

Thanks !!! Me not really concern about the 0 to 100km/h but more on the comfy and fuel consumption. I also liked bigger rims, but 17" seems to be too big and too ex liao... so 16" would be my best option then... Thanks again ! [thumbsup]

By the way, what's the brand of your tyres? How much did you pay for it?

Yup, that's also one of my concern when talking to the Sale personnel. As I have not collect my car yet, no way to test it but to based it on the personnel's experience. Thanks for your feedback !

Thanks Bros ! [thumbsup] You have provided me with the answer I need to make my decision..... I am into comfort and better fuel consumption loh... so naturally 205 would be an ideal choice.... [sunny]

By the way, is 205/60 tyres difficult to find in the local market? Seems that one of the shop is not carrying this tyre size....

205/60 does seems a bit odd. Decide on the tyre type you want ant try to search the web for available sizes.

For example, if you are keen for Falken Azenis ST115, just looke here

http://www.stamfordtyres.com.sg/tpl/produc...zenisst115.html

Apparently, they do have 205/60 16" but whether they bring it in is another matter. [sweatdrop]

Sometimes your choices are limited and you've gotta settle for what's available in the market............

Better consumption is only relative and you may find that the 205/60 can be slightly worse than your stock 15" if the 16" rims are heavier. However, for the same tyre, the comfort and fuel consumption for the 205/60 will definitely be better compared to 215/55.

Thanks Bro! Agreeded, have expected the consquences when decided to upgrade to 16" rims.... "Ai sui"... It's just that I was confused by the 2 options presented to me... Therefore, my first choice would be 205/60 followed by 215/55 then.... of course, subject to the avaliability of the tyres in the market then.... Thanks again... [thumbsup]

Ooooops... seems that 205/60R16 is a very odd size in SG.... Can consider to be one of the rare size tyre... so no choice but have to settle on 215/55R16 liao....

Odd sizes really costs more! [sweatdrop] Haven't tried the Aspec DB and ST115, but IMO, they are touring tyres, so should be more comfortable than the Kumho, if you're referring to 712.

The Aspec DB should be quieter and more comfortable than ST115 when new. However, some ppl say it's wet handling is not too good. Both tyres does get rather noisy once worn down, perhaps 10K down the road. Again this is based on hearsay.

I am currently using Aspec DB on my old car..... Overall still fine, tyre noise level still acceptable. No experience with other tyres brand also.... Thanks for your advise... [thumbsup]
