  2. China mum sells off twin babies for $12,600, buys new phone https://www.asiaone.com/china/china-mum-sells-twin-babies-12600-buys-new-phone?xtor=EREC-16-4[Emarsys_Newsletter]-20190910&extid=6934d0cfb7b252f1ae9f0dbddf5ff88ca8637e77 BY KIMBERLY ANNE LIM ASIAONE Blood may be thicker than water but for this mum in China, money trumps all — including her own children. A single mother, known only as Ma, sold off her newborn twin boys in September last year for a total of 65,000 yuan (S$12,600), according to media reports. The sale was only uncovered by local police recently in the course of investigations into a different case. Ma, who is in her 20s and hails from Zhejiang province, claimed that she did it because she was "penniless and heavily in debt". According to the woman, her parents had refused to help her because they were angry about the pre-marital pregnancy. To make matters worse, the father of the twins, known only as Wu, reportedly refused to be responsible for the babies. He was also nowhere to be found when they were born, only resurfacing to beg Ma to settle his debts after he heard that the twins had been sold off. Ma decided to split the proceeds of the sale with Wu, using her share to pay off her credit card debts and to buy a new mobile phone. By the time police arrested the pair, they had already spent all of the money. Upon further investigation, police managed to track down the babies who had been sold to two couples in Anhui province, reuniting them with Ma's parents. [email protected] Sep 09, 2019
  3. SINGAPORE - A "Mums & Maids" film urging employers to give their domestic workers a day off every week has been criticised by some who felt it portrayed mothers in a bad light. But some said it reflects the sad truth of some parents relying too much on their maids to look after their children. The two minute-long video features interviews with mothers, children and their maids. Through a series of questions and answers, it shows that domestic workers understand their employers' children better than their employers. In the video, a mother said her daughter "wants to be a teacher", while the maid answered: "I think she wants to be a princess." The girl replied: "Princess." Another mother was asked about her son's best friend in school. She answered: "Very difficult to say, not too sure." Her maid said: "Joseph." The boy's reply? Joseph. https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=74&v=jUxkOSkD8Rc Marketing communications firm Ogilvy & Mather teamed up with migrant workers group Transient Workers' Count Two (TWC2) for the video to mark Labour Day on May 1. TWC2 president Noorashikin Abdul Rahman said: "The film is provocative. Provocation sometimes helps to generate a buzz on this issue that domestic workers should have a weekly day off." But some questioned if it was an appropriate way to get the message across. A netizen, who goes by the name "Lydia Shah", wrote in a comment on the video's Youtube page: "Hmm shaming mothers not the way to go. I don't see how not knowing your children well = give maids a day off. Kind of a roundabout way to get to a point." Another netizen, known as "Vj Veerasamy", commented: "The decision for a day off for domestic workers does not only fall on the responsibility of the mother but the fathers too." Netizen "Patrick Chng" added: "You don't give a day off to a domestic worker because you should spend more time with your child. All workers/employees must be given a minimum of a day off a week because everybody needs time for rest and leisure." But some said the video was well made. Netizen "Hong Kong Blog" wrote: "Very touching well made video." Some also felt it reflects what is happening in some families. Netizen "Yuet Shan POON" said this also applies to Hong Kong, where many busy parents tend to focus only on the academic results of their children. "How many moms can get all the correct answers?" she wrote. Mr Eugene Cheong, chief creative officer of Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific, was quoted by Marketing Magazine as saying that the film is deliberately confronting because it has to be effective and must actually change behaviour. He said: "We focused the creative strategy on tapping into modern parents' fear of missing out. By showing how parents are losing out on their relationship with their children by always requiring their domestic worker to be around, we reposition their day off as an opportunity to enhance family bonding." 4. MOTHER OF 5 PLAYED NAKED TWISTER WITH TEEN DAUGHTER IN DRUNKEN PARTY Post date: 16 Apr 2015 - 10:31am A mother-of-five threw her teenage daughter a party, played naked Twister with her friends and then had sex with an 18-year-old in the bathroom, authorities have said. Rachel Lynn Lehnardt, 35, from Evans, Georgia, was arrested on Saturday night and has been charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. The details of the drunken party emerged when Lehnardt met with her Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor last Friday and told her about the wild party. The sponsor then contacted authorities. She told the woman that her children, who are aged between four and 16, were with their father when her oldest daughter texted her to ask if she could bring over some friends. Lehnardt allegedly responded: 'Come on, let's party', WJBF reported. When the teenagers arrived, she allegedly allowed them to drink alcohol and smoke marijuana in her home, before she played naked Twister with them in the living room. While the youngsters continued playing, she allegedly went into a bathroom and had sex with an 18-year-old man, the sponsor told authorities. When she returned, she brought out sex toys and started to use them on herself in front of the teenagers, she told her sponsor, Augusta Crime reported. She later went to bed alone and around 3.30am, she awoke to find someone having sex with her, she told her sponsor. 'She stated at first she thought it was the 18-year-old from earlier, but then realized it was the 16-year-old who was in fact her daughter's boyfriend,' Lehnardt's sponsor told deputies.
