You are so wrong! It's not the title, it's the responsibiltiea and pay.

My cousin who works in a bank told me more than half of the positions (excluding frontline coutner staff) in there is AVP...wah if most of the staff there are paid this much, no wonder so many people yearned to work in banking industry... :D

Turbocharged

There are 2 major categories for positions in the IBs. They are executive and non executive.

AVP is if not the lowest of the executive rank and file.

Again I clarify this is for foreign banks who pay so much better than the crap we have locally. Of course they are the ones who cut staff in bad times like no other and also suck the most money from gullible people :D

Got this high? I had the impression AVP in banks is rather junior....

Often, engineer or avp in foreign bank is paid much higher than vp in local bank.

Those who are familiar with Banking IT industry will know that that bank

SVP, VP are all FT from the same country. They employed FT of the same race or country

to stay in power.

My friend who is a local chinese which is a minority, have to work extra hard.

It's more for banks such as Citi, Stanchart, Barclays, Credit Suisse, BOA (it's slightly better with the HR policy).

Can always change to another dept in the bank, no need to quit unless he got a much better offer.

may not be that low la especially with experience

nowadays, banking fresh graduates with 6 months attachment training already ya ya asking for $3k-ish leh (anything < $3k see no up)

FYI, I am working in a reputable foreign bank. 3K+ maybe low for AVP. but 5 year later can be 6K+ [:p]

depends on which department, in certain departments like back office, AVP is considered high rank but in banking frontline, AVP is a common title. Pay wise ranges but i believe at least high 3s for AVP even for local bank.
