It is always good practice to wear protective gear whenever you are cycling.

However, being decked out in protective gear doesn't grant you superpowers or special protection against other road users/vehicles.

Watch this short clip and find out what I mean:

This incident occurred at a junction along Hougang Avenue 9.

A blatant disregard for traffic law

The traffic lights were green, which permitted the cam car and Bus 109 (travelling in the opposite direction) to proceed. 

Despite having the right of way, the bus driver could be seen giving way to a pedestrian dressed in a white t-shirt before moving off.

As the bus driver moves off, a cyclist riding from the pavement sped across the pedestrian crossing.

This "genius" did not conform to the red man signal and ended up getting hit by the bus.

Clearly in the bus driver's blindspot

It is necessary to state that it is NOT easy driving such big vehicles (Eg. buses, trucks). 

Although it may be easier for others to spot these larger vehicles, amplifying their road presence, this also means that these larger vehicles will have an increased number of blind spots which prevent their driver from having a clear view of his surrounding.

It is funny that these days we have so many cyclists so numb to their surroundings and leave safety to other road users instead of themselves. This bunch needs to learn the hard way like this example. And sorry, no pity.

I really hope SBS will be understanding towards the bus driver 😪 And I am certain this innocent bus driver will likely suffer some kind of trauma from this incident.

I believe the hard way isn’t the only option. Increasing their awareness on road safety and ensuring they adhere to road safety regulations should be the option.

How its going to be done? Well, I shall leave that to the government to provide that solution🤭

Yes, now all using noise-cancellation earbuds somemore.

And sometimes they travel at such a fast speed that you only have enough time to react defensively, let alone sound your horn at them.

The government is doing their part for the awareness. We can't always depend on the government to take care of such matter when it is as simple as basic common sense and basic self discipline. Build cycling track (tenah merah coastal is a good example), still got monkeys ride on the road. How? Maybe it will only work when government slap heavy fines or jail terms just to educate small minority of monkeys who don't look out for their own safety.

He should have died of stupidity years ago.

Will some big lorry/bus driver pls roll over and crush this moron already?

And then on top of fines or jail terms, they probably also need to waste resources by stationing someone there to catch those who break the law or possibly install more cameras. Because what's the point of having rules and regulations when there's no enforcement right? It's ingrained into Singaporeans 'You can do whatever you want just don't get caught (even it it means risking getting pancaked by a truck)."

Not just this cyclist, many cyclists seen on the road these days have unexplainable "stupidity" 😂.

I believe LTA is trying their best to deal with this issue...not sure which direction they are going to though...1. close both eyes and say cannot be done or 2. put in resources to deal with the issue.
