I notice that most HU can only play the std 16bit format. What is the different if we play a 20 bit or 24 bit CD using a normal HU. Will the lost of data be significance?

 

Also currently, there are SACD in the market and also DVD-audio. What are the difference between these two type.

Just bought Hayley Westerna's Pure.

 

She's from NZ and has one of the most angelic voice I've heard. Even my 8 mth old son who's usually restless in the car stopped to listen....

Hi, unless you have heard a 24 bit from a 16 bit, its pretty difficult to describe correctly what is the "significance loss of data" or would I prefer to say information.

 

Generally, all CD formats come in 16 bit as the trend has been there in the market, this is especially so since most of the CD players available are capable of 16 bit playback, and the market is huge and common. A 24 bit CD can contain 16 bit worth of audio information whilst the rest are data.

 

Difference in SACD and DVD audio is the volume of information and details that manafacturer can effectively master into a conventional CD. SACD and DVD audio are generally 24 bit.

 

All these has got to do with the mastering and remastering process, you may wish to read further on the sticky thread "Let's talk about music" where CHICKENBACKSIDE has discussed from a music production point of view.

 

The above is not exhaustive enough though...
