Ya last time when I checked the carbs, all those shops sell different brands. But all the brands seems to have the "bergs". All-the-funny-bergs brand. [:)]

Sorry for late reply. I just came back from long overseas work [:(]

My M323 (year 2002) is not carb. Its definitely EFI with ECU. We were talking about my previous car, which was a MB123. That MB123, was manufactured in 1978.

Yes think you're right. I saw some online discussions about this (last week before I left) and found 1 webpage that describes how to diagnose using the jumper and lights. Think maybe 1 day I'll try this out and report here.

Neutral Newbie

its different from what i have seen...there no such big system shown in the manual...just a connector with display (display has many bulbs - like LED type)....

ya I think those are just 3rd party manufactured diagnostic systems or whatever. But by looking at just page 6.....I was only thinking of using a voltmeter to measure the DTC first. Can see how many volts. But I guess it'll be hard to see with a voltmeter, so I'll have to use a LED after figuring out the volts.....

Should be possible....on a non-rainy weekend. This weekend out liao.

So I checked and found a small box that reads "Diagnostics" on the outside.

Realised my regular cheapo mechanic also got a OBDII scanner. The brand is Scan007 or something. But unfortunately he don't have this funny connector. [:|]

I got to noe this workshop at Northlink (tat one tat tried to promote water injection (can aska Robin he noes 'em or not).....they hv a german ODB scanner (forgotten the brand name) with many types of adaptors to fit onto this connector. He tried on my previous protege, it works. Saw all the realtime parameters, can access fault codes, etc. [nod]

Ya my mech has plenty of connectors also....there were 2 connectors for Mazda but it didn't seems to fit. But I also didn't try....maybe it only needed to connect to the bigger connector? Did you see if the connector fitted the whole thing? Also, do you remember how much they charge for it?

Haven't bought any. But I have plenty of loose LEDs at home. So I need to know how many volts is that, then I connect up the needed LEDs to fit the voltage before plugging it in to the socket.

Also need a simple cable that I can use to ground the "TEN" pin. Maybe next weekend can try.

Hi guys,

Just some updates: Managed to try the setup where by I connected a jumper on the TEN pin to the ground and also checked the voltage coming out from the FEN and B+ pin as described in the document. The test document suggested a analog voltmeter. But I only got a digital one. But if there's any movement, it should detect as I tried 20V and 2V settings.

Problem was: I did not see any fluctuation of voltage. It was 0 all the while even when I turned the ignition to ON. According to the document, it means there is no DTC stored.

So now I'm thinking maybe even if some sensors are broken, but if the electronic circuit is not broken, then it will not be flagged and stored as a DTC.

So Yeobh might be right as I didn't even have my Check Engine Light on.

So how to troubleshoot from here? On my next visit to mechanic, I'll ask him to check the engine timing. Think I need to call him and ask if he has got a timing light at all. Just wondering if all timing lights are the same? Generic for all cars?

DIY liao. No DTC. Makes sense....coz no Check Engine Light mah. Ive been too kan chiong cos I read somewhere online that sometimes theres DTC codes but not critical to warrant turning on the CEL light.....sigh.

Anyway no problems. Only took me 10mins to setup everything and pack up. Will revert back after I go to a mechanic that can chech engine timing. [:/]

Timing lights are actual strob light - the timing of lamp flashing is trigger by the no. 1 spark plug pick pick-up. Professional timing light designed with very high quality Xenon tube that can take high speed swtiching - that is engine can be rev up to more than 5,000 rpm to test the timing advance.
