Engine Jerky when driving in the rain

Dear all,

 

I am driving an Octavia Classic, manual. Anyone experience this before, a jerky engine with no power only when driving in the heavy rain.

 

Somehow, wifey is driving the car now and reported as it is and trying to solicite your inputs and rectifications, if any.

check spark plug and spark plug cable. Previous owner of a SEAT Leon have this problem before.

check the air filter how long ago it was replaced. check the air filter box, usually there should b a small weep hole at the base, this is to allow the water tat is drawn into the intake and collected in the chamber to be removed.

 

also check, make sure the resonator box is ok u hv not removed it before. this box act as balancing tank to help the cyclic flow of air into the chamber.

other then this, get a volt meter check the current reading just to make sure the alternator has no issue.

lastly, check when u last replace the fuel filter/ fuel motor.

Can be wheelspin due to the wet road. Will feel like the car is not moving or v. slowly. Then when there is traction it will jerk a bit then resume normally. I have experienced it so many times that i think it's normal.

 

Can be specific only to manual cars cos sometimes we press the acc pedal bit more/release the clutch a bit faster. And when the rain is pounding on your car, can't really hear the engine revs also

Thanks. Your points are interesting and new. Air and Fuel filter (9months old) and pump(2 years old in a 4 year old car) are new

 

What is a resonator box.

The hint is you feel no power, most likely a misfire in the spark plug or cable, why only during the raining period? wet plug bro! your cable may have a leakage and your spark plug is soaked.

 

Take out all the spark plug and check! now you feel no power, later it might just stall, so it quite danger if you are on the highway, better get it solve, especially for your loved one...

You are right, in one way, will check. It is alright on the higway when rev is high.

 

It is like the olden days when your distributor is wet kind of feeling.

Hmmm....you are right, wet distributor also can be the source of problem. hate it when your ride start giving you problem right?

Noticed that the distributor is located quite low. And the silly CA took away the snow cover below years ago. Yup, it is irritating, but like I said, Skoda is easy to maintain but lots to maintain.

Also check the spark plug chamber as it might also be due to broken O rings, thus the water slips into the affected chamber and cause the spark plug to die off...

 

Happened to my Renault before. If serious case then need to change the whole chamber.

Just a quick qns on engine. I feel there's a drop in engine rpm occasionally when i come to a stop at the traffic lights. Just a momentarily drop i would say. What could be the cause here?

Superb? idling issue, either throttle dirty or you need some ECU reset or tunning. When you step on the brake, the idle throttle suck in more air to maintain the air/fuel ratio so that the rpm remain the same, if you have rpm drop, either the throttle is not operating properly or the air intake is choke with dirty.

 

Check your idling with air-con on and air-con off, the different should not be too much.

well, the problem of reliability issue is that all items r likely to fail early or late into the product life. this means that if it is new, it may well fail also, we call this the bathtub behavior.

 

the resonator box is attach to the air intake. as long as u did not do CAI, the resonator box is usually there.

 

the main cause of problem is in 3 issue : Fuel supply, electrical supply and air supply or combination of any 2 or all of 3. it could also b the problem of the aircon compressor being cranky due to clout aircon filter which means it works harder during neutral gear.

Could it be your CAI taking in rain water instead of air??

 

I didn't know car can also catch a cold.
