yeah and when i criticized the safety and performance and viability of some lesser cars such as the chery qq, geely, picanto and kelisa, others called me a snob and claimed that even well made subaru wrx also can kill and crash.

 

hell, a bmw or volvo can kill and crash as well.

i for one would never put my life in these vehicles. at least a decent hyundai verna or kia cerato for me being the bare minimum.

 

now am i really a snob when i say that such cars are savings not worth it and money not well spent?

But of course, must be fair. don't compare to toyota and Honda... not realistic.

 

But should be fair to compare with Proton Saga, Lada, Elantra (1st Generation). So far don't hear any QQ or Geely owners complain handle or mirror drop out. So, still better than Lada....

for 37k i could have topped up for a more reliable Rio? straits times Life (Saturday) mentioned that in a world recognized survey, Kia is ranked 5th in reliability. at least a Rio is more decent...

There must be some potential for China made cars, otherwise ex-Renault & VW authorised distributor, Peter Kwee will not be so silly to give up his Renault and VW distribiutorships and focus his attention on Chinese cars instead. This man has foresight!

I worked in China....for car issue, most Chinese try not to buy car that print "Made in China" unless it's name like Honda, Toyota, VW......etc. When it's Chinese own brand, they will stay away as far as possible.

 

BTW, a small QQ selling price in China (Guangzhou) is about 40,000 yuan. Exchange rate is $1=5 yuan.

 

So pls do your maths before buying your next QQ (kill kill)

You can hope he has the deep pockets to go along...as the way things go, he'll need to establish at least 5-6 yrs of market credibility before these cars appeal to the masses...so for the first few years, its all in the red for him...

 

And, i dun think foresight has anything to do with it..he was prolly hoping to tap into the budget car mkt where ppl dun care what driving/car is really abt and juz buy a cheap ride...u call that foresight?

I guess it's personal choice. If the car proves to b a piece of junk, then in a short time we wont see anymore on the roads.

 

I too feel those China cars r more like toys. I just wonder how pple can actually buy them. Maybe these r 1st time owners so they can't compare with anything & to them it's better then public transport or motorcycle.

 

But then again when in the 1960's we only had conti cars here & the japs came in with their tin can cars & slowly they conquered the motoring scene. After that was the Koreans & then MY cars. We also had our fair share of Lada's & Skodas(b4 VW stepped in) & I guess time will tell if they can make the grade quickly.

 

There wil always b buyers for budget cars & it's a gamble they r willing to take I guess.

Wah, China cars so fast got problems? Like that over the long run the car will become more expensive then Jap cars if u add in the repair/maintanance costs, plus all the added frustrations.

What repair/maintenance. Just scrap & collect back the ARF & COE. Accept the huge loss & take it as a lesson learnt.

 

For car's like this, it's good to have all these ARF & COE to recover some $$$ back. For other brand of cars, ARF & COE just raises the price & depreciation of a car.
