  1. Did i mention that the day is near and that if the rest are not careful, PRC cars coming into PHEV from full EVs are going to hit them hard. Expect more China brands coming into this segment with longer and longer ranges. Now i am excited. https://carnewschina.com/2024/03/28/geely-and-byd-claim-2000-km-range-for-phev-systems/ https://carnewschina.com/2024/03/29/live-chery-challenge-2000-km-range-in-a-phev/
  2. Bye bye Vertex https://www.sgcarmart.com/news/article.php?AID=28520&GASRC=sgcm
  3. https://www.asiaone.com/lifestyle/volkswagen-group-singapore-new-cupra-dealer-town VGS has taken over SEAT/Cupra dealership from Vertex Euro Motors. Rumour has it Vertex will be bringing back Geely. Here we see showcase of some of Geely's upcoming hybrids and EV.
  4. Thanks to its Chinese owner Geely, Lotus now has the resources to expand and is looking to add 200 new engineers to its workforce as part of its plan to increase production. As reported by The Telegraph, the British sports car company plans to triple production to 5,000 cars a year and will also open an engineering center in the Midlands. It will also be launching a hypercar dubbed ‘Type 130’ that will be unveiled later this year. The hypercar will have an output of around 1000bhp and will be powered by an all-electric powertrain developed by Williams Advanced Engineering. Back in 2017, Geely bought over Lotus as part of a £100 million (S$177 million) deal and its boss, billionaire Li Shufu aims to turn Lotus around and make it a credible rival to the world’s best supercar makers.
  5. Which China car has the best or worst sound insulation? So far i tested Geely CK, I think the sound insulation inside is very bad, above 80km/h the sound is so loud it drown the radio. If u hav a china car pls share the sound insulation feedback?
  6. First off the line since the Geely acquisition (49.9%) based on the Geely BoYue. not interested much in proton or geely but i have to admit it has a very striking exterior. The Boyue is designed by former Volvo designer Peter Horbury, its a five-seat C-segment SUV measuring 4.5 metres long. Engines range from 2.4 litre (162 hp/210 Nm) to 1.8 litre turbo (163 hp/250 Nm). already testing on MY roads though LHD. Targeting mass market. Will it be as ubiquitious as the 1st gen saga or myvi over there?
  7. On the heels after local Volvo S90s will now be Chinese-made, Lotus brand will also be made in a Geely plant in China. Not surprising, both Volvo and Lotus are owned by Geely --------------- BEIJING/SHANGHAI: The Chinese owner of Lotus plans to start producing the British sports car brand in China for the first time with the opening of a new 9 billion yuan (US$1.3 billion) factory in Wuhan city, company job advertisements and government documents showed. The previously unreported plans are Zhejiang Geely Holding Group's first move to shake up the British brand since its purchase of a majority stake in 2017. The move is in line with Geely's ambitions to build more up-market cars and throw off its reputation for copycat designs and shoddy quality. For Lotus, it could mean greater production volumes and new models such as SUVs to boost sales. "For Geely, going high-end can help it take more market share," said Alan Kang, Shanghai based analyst at LMC Automotive. "Geely needs to do that to better compete with global brands." Lotus cars are currently built in Norfolk, England. Geely and Lotus said in a joint statement that while Norfolk was Lotus's manufacturing home, a key part of the firm's strategy to revive the brand was expanding the brand's manufacturing footprint globally. "Details on additional locations and models will be confirmed in due course," the company said in an e-mail to Reuters. The planning authority of Hubei province, whose capital is Wuhan, last month approved Geely's plans for the plant. The factory will be able to manufacture 150,000 cars annually, according to a document posted on the authority's website. The Wuhan Development Zone, where the factory will be based, said in a statement posted on its website last month that production at the plant would include "Geely's Lotus project". The Wuhan Development Zone did not respond to Reuters' request for comment. The documents did not say when the plant would start operations. The facility is approved to build all-electric battery cars, electric hybrids as well as combustion engine cars like Lotuses. Job advertisements on Geely's website show the automaker is looking to fill at least 20 Wuhan-based roles for the Lotus project. LUXURY AMBITIONS While is not clear what portion of the new Chinese production line would be devoted to the British brand, greater production volumes would be consistent with Geely's stated ambition to grow the market for Lotus by broadening its line-up. Geely sold only 1,630 Lotuses globally in 2018. Lotus currently produces models such as the Evora and Elise. James Bond famously drove a Lotus Esprit in 1977's "The Spy Who Loved Me", and Lotus once boasted a Formula One team until it was sold to Renault for just one pound in 2015. But in a major break with the past, two sources familiar with the matter said Lotus would likely make luxury SUVs instead of sports cars during the Wuhan plant's initial phase. One of the sources said Geely wanted to emulate premium carmakers like Porsche , whose luxury SUV models were selling well in China. The share of luxury SUVs in China's overall passenger car market grew from 4.07 percent in 2014 to 5.01 percent in 2018, according to data from consultancy J.D. Power. Geely has forecast flat sales this year after the Chinese auto market contracted for the first time in more than two decades in 2018. The company has made waves in the auto world with its US$9 billion purchase of a stake in Germany's Daimler AG and its US$1.8 billion acquisition of Sweden's Volvo. It bought 51 percent of Lotus from Malaysian automaker Proton in 2017. Read more at https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/business/british-lotus-cars-to-be-made-in-china-at-new-geely-plant-11133856
  8. While we weren't looking, Geely has come up with its next generation of products, developed with Volvo's input. This year, the Geely GC9 is being launched. The result is quite remarkable. Although things like reliability and build quality can't really be told through pictures, signs like panel gaps and plastic quality can be told. I think this is a quantum leap over the Geely CK which Singaporeans' understanding of Geely has stopped at. Click on the link to see more: http://www.autohome.com.cn/advice/201501/856244.html
  9. Dear All, For those Geely MK and CK drivers, if you decided not to go back to AD for servicing and worry about servicing parts hard to find. I will be glad to help you to source. Currently i m importing original parts like Air filter, oil filters from supplier. Other parts are also avaliable. Just a source for Geely owners. Hope it helps.
  10. Geely Holding, the owner of Volvo and Geely Automotive have agreed to to buy Proton from DRB-Hicom, beating rival bidder PSA Group. Geely is said to have bought 49 percent of Proton, according to Reuters. Details of the deal remain unknown as DRB-Hicom could not be reached as of press time. Other than the PSA Group which owns Citroen and Peugeot, Renault and Suzuki have also been rumored to bid for Proton. Proton is said to have two manufacturing plants that can assemble 400,000 cars yearly but is now running far below their maximum potential. With Geely's help, Proton could improve and grow itself in the neighbouring right hand drive markets, including Malaysia and India.
  11. Hello bros, I'm a getz owner who visit getz portal. and there also a forum for chery at http://chery.sgportal.net and Geely at http://geely.sgportal.net Just sharing, hope it help.
  12. If you are to buy a chinese made and chinese made only, which will you buy and why? Chery , Geely or Haifei, only the makes that are here now. Thanks!
  13. Wonder why no one brought in the ladas THey may be dated, but solidly built cars with simple engines, may have been a good proposition for a cheap opc with minimal maintenance IMHO still better than the china cars The Lada Nivas were well commended for its robustness and off road ability - able to withstand punishment I also find that the ladas have a some what muscular appeal to their design - poor man's range rover defender perhaps Also remembered a friend having a lada samara, the gears required brute force to shift but the engine note , and the way the car moves - feels like a chunk of brute force being propelled against the road, quite a nice feeling

    Chinese copycat cars

In 2013, China produced a whopping 18.7 million cars. That equates to 22.7 per cent of global car production. But while many of these models were from companies we’ve never heard of, some look very similar to those produced by their European counterparts. Does this look familiar? Check-out the copycat cars below, alongside the models they seem to have drawn inspiration from... JAC A6 and Audi A6 While some companies won’t let on just which car they might be imitating, it seems that JAC was quite happy to own up when it badged its latest release the A6. Yes, that’s right, the A6. Not only does it have the exact same name as the Audi A6 saloon, but it looks very similar to the original model. It’s the grille and stepped headlights that really give the game away. Copied: Audi A6 Copycat: JAC A6 BAIC X424 and Jeep Cherokee Another model that looks more like a merging of two cars than just a single copy of one. The BAIC X424 has a hint of the Jeep Cherokee at the front with the large grille openings, while the side profile is clearly taken from the rugged Wrangler model. Perhaps the company felt that customers wouldn’t be happy with just one Jeep and instead wanted the best of both. Copied: Jeep Cherokee Copycat: BAIC X424 BYD S7 and Lexus RX While some imitations are fairly obvious at a glance, others are disguised a little better. The BYD S7 may not have the look of the Lexus RX from the front, but there’s no hiding the similarities towards the rear, with the same curved windows, small spoiler and tail-lights. BYD has done a decent job of keeping this quiet, but not good enough. Copied: Lexus RX Copycat: BYD S7 Geely GE and Rolls-Royce Phantom Fancy the luxury of a Rolls-Royce Phantom, but don’t quite have the £305,000 to cover the costs? Well the Geely GE might just be the thing for you. It’s got the big chrome grille and even an imitation Spirit of Ecstasy on the bonnet. Just make sure nobody gets too close to see what it actually is. Copied: Rolls-Royce Phantom Copycat: Geely GE Lifan 330 and MINI The round headlights, that front grille and the cheeky hatchback shape... the Lifan 330 has more than a hint of the second-generation MINI Cooper about it. When it was launched at April’s Beijing Motor Show, even the press release hailed the car as fashionable, artistic and with ‘mini’ temperament. Lifan was just ahead of the British brand with the five-door bodystyle, however, but that’s no excuse. Copied: MINI Copycat: Lifan 330 Chery Riich M1 and Toyota Yaris The Chery Riich M1 is a small hatchback designed for inner city commuters. While the front end is ugly enough to not really resemble anything on UK roads, the curvaceous side profile and rear of the car look like a direct lift from the Toyota Yaris MkII. Fortunately for Toyota that’s where the similarities end, and it’s unlikely to ever be any real competition to the established – and far more attractive – hatchback. Copied: Toyota Yaris Copycat: Chery Riich M1 Zotye T600 and Volkswagen Touareg The large SUV, revealed at April’s Beijing Motor Show, is a doppelganger of two models from the VW Group. Take the Audi Q5 and VW Touareg, mix a few of the parts together and this is the result. On the show stand the Zotye T600 was even glistening in the same shade of brown as the VW. Surely more than a coincidence? Copied: Volkswagen Touareg Copycat: Zotye T600 Brilliance V5 and BMW X1 Brilliance is the partner of BMW in China, and the X1 compact crossover went on sale in the country through the partnership. So, it’s interesting to see that Brilliance launched its very own rival to the X1, dubbed the V5. It’s probably one of the closest copies we’ve ever seen. Of course, this version is cheaper than the BMW model, but is only sold in China. Copied: BMW X1 Copycat: Brilliance V5

  18. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_Cars Volvo Car Corporation, or Volvo Personvagnar AB, is a Swedish automobile manufacturer founded in 1927, in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is owned by Zhejiang Geely Holding Group.[2] Volvo was originally formed as a subsidiary company to the ball bearing maker SKF. When Volvo AB was introduced on the Swedish stock exchange in 1935, SKF sold most of the shares in the company. Volvo Cars was owned by AB Volvo until 1999, when it was acquired by the Ford Motor Company as part of its Premier Automotive Group. Geely Holding Group then acquired Volvo from Ford in 2010.[3] Volvo produces models ranging from SUVs, station wagons (estates), and sedans (saloons), to compact executive sedans and coupes. With approximately 2,300 local dealers from around 100 national sales companies worldwide, the US is Volvo Cars' largest market, followed by Sweden, the United Kingdom, China and Germany.[citation needed] In 2010, Volvo recorded global sales of 373,525 cars, an increase of 11.2% compared to 2009.[4] Volvo is often compared to and nicknamed tractors,[5][6] partially because Volvo AB was and still is a manufacturer of heavy equipment, earlier Bolinder-Munktell, now Volvo Construction Equipment. Some consumers considered older models to be slow and heavy,[7] thus earning the distinction, "brick",[8] as a term of endearment for the classic, block-shaped Volvo, with the more powerful turbocharged variants known as "turbobricks".[8] The company moved away from the boxy styles of the 1970s and 1980s, to models which gained a reputation for sporting performance, including the factory-supported Volvo 240 turbos, which won the 1985 European Touring Car Championship (ETC) and 1986 Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC).[9] Volvo is known for its high safety standards.[clarification needed] Owners are often proud of achieving high mileage;[10] one well-documented 1966 Volvo P1800 has been driven over 2.8 million miles, a Guinness World Record for most miles driven by a single owner in a non-commercial vehicle.[11] According to some figures, the average age of a Volvo being discarded is 19.8 years, second only to Mercedes.[12]

  24. After completing the Volvo takeover, the guys over at Geely have become much more optimistic and ambitious with their goals. The Geely group intends to grow more than ever this year, with a clear goal to become one of the top 500 companies in the world. "This year we will expand Geely's production capacity to over ten trillion units, enough to be one of the world's top 500 enterprises," said Yang Jian, president of Geely Holding Group, according to a report by Gasgoo.com. As for the auto branch in particular, Geely expects sales to have good growth in the next few years as the Volvo product range will be launched both in the domestic markets and in other unexplored regions. The company wants to double its market share in China, with sales to reach 2 million cars per year by 2015. More than 40 new models based on 15 platforms with be launched by its core brands in China such as Emgrand, Gleagle and Englon. To cater for the projected increase in sales, the dealership network will also be increased, with new stores to deliver not only models sold under its Chinese brands, but also vehicles wearing Volvo's badge. Geely reminds me of the Hyundai group in the 1980s. However, I believe Geely has a more uphill task than Hyundai in establishing its branding overseas due to its Chinese roots, which is infamous for unscrupulous manufacturers of tainted milk powder and harmful toys.
  25. Zero star in Latin NCAP for Geely's CK sedan. Good luck to occupants! http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpr...crash_test.html
