Why is the Disc brake plate so hot?

Hi all,

after parking my car, occasionally touched my front Disc brake plate, wow lau! very hot, [sly] but the rear drum brake just was sightly warm.

is it something wrong for my Disc brake?? [confused]

Good thing you didn't burn yourself. Braking is all about friction and dissipation of kinetic energy into heat energy. When you brake, a large proportion of the car's weight goes to the front (that is why you should never brake whilst taking a corner at speed - braking can lower the rear grip and then you lose traction behind) and the front brakes generally do most of the work. So, what you felt was normal - thank goodness you didn't just have a bout of hard braking or you would have burnt your fingers.

 

In F1, the brake discs can turn RED HOT and reach temperatures of close to 1,000 degC. Keep your hands away from those discs until they cool down.
