Driving refreshment course

hi, my wife is thinking to go for the driving refreshment course. Do you guys have any suggestions or recommendations? Thanks in advance?

Driving centres have refresher courses but quite expensive as it comprises 4 lessons.

 

Depending on how "rusty" your wife's driving skill is, may not need all 4 lessons. Can always contact pte instructors for a 2-hour refresher course. Much cheaper.

thanks, ya already checked on the bukit batok driving center website and the rate is quite exp. We are staying in the west, any good private instructors to recommend?

This person I know is near AMK area. Not sure if he does west side.

 

Since you have car, might as well you give her the lessons yourself and save the money for your upcoming trip.

What kind of car is she driving? I suppose she needs some refresher on the following:-

 

- parking (parallel + vertical)

- negotiating 90 deg bend

- negotiating curve bend

- reminder to check for blind spots

- slope (only for manual car)

 

I stay in the west side around the CCK area. I can show you some pointers if you need, then you can use those to teach your wife. The Sunget Kadut area provides a good place to practice without worrying about too many vehicles at night.

 

BTW, I'm not a driving instructor, just a nut with crazy driving habits at times

thanks, it will be good... the car is an auto vios, she is worry in parking MSCP and driving in heavy traffic and expressway...

I used to drive an AT Vios as well. And at where I stay, it's one of the tightest MSCP I've ever experienced.

 

Now I have to negotiate my long Silvia thru that place.

BTW, I'm no insurance agent or whatever, just in case you're wondering...

 

The Vios is a simple car to handle and it can be nimble to respond to a driver's wish. What I can do is bring you to my MSCP where parking is nightmare. Learning to park at one of the worst MSCP in Singapore will surely equip her for any other MSCP.

 

The Vios is great in heavy traffic, allowing a driver to keep close without having to worry about the nose. The best way is always to learn the braking capabilities of the car along with the relative position of the nose while in driver's position. That's also easily achieved.

 

As for expressway driving, given that the driver is trying to race someone, the Vios allows for nimble lane changes to accommodate most situations.

 

Overall, the Vios is a relatively short car compared to a lot of the rest out there, thus allowing it to move around with ease. Most of the practice for squeezing comes from real life scenarios, eg. JB Causeway returning to SG whereby the best squeezers get home faster (and I don't mean speeders here).

There's a huge industrial car park near Jurong East. Maybe you can use that for her practice first.

1. Ask her to read up the basic theory esp. the road signs

 

2. Show her some important tips like signaling and check mirror & blind spots while lane change, turn into left filtering lane, right turn and U turn. Always beware or keep a distance to taxi and bicycle on left most lane.

 

3. Practice driving during off-peak.

My fren always go to Tuas at nite to practice driving...the road is wide enough n long enuff with many turns too.There r some roads in tuas that r good to practice driving in narrow n bending road ( at least there is no car ard).
