Theman Clutched June 4, 2007 Share June 4, 2007 Dear bro, I have a question related to the 40K servicing for my car, it is approaching 40K now, and this weekend I am going to Genting, do u guys think is better to service before I go, or wait until i come back then service? thanks in advance. ↡ Advertisement
Ahyoo2002 2nd Gear June 4, 2007 Share June 4, 2007 I would said service before you go as the workshop can have a thorough check to ensure that everything is in good condition.
Ericang69 Neutral Newbie June 4, 2007 Share June 4, 2007 Totally agree wtih Ahyoo2002, you shld do yr servicing b4 any long voyage. Happy driving
Pisces69 6th Gear June 4, 2007 Share June 4, 2007 If u r going to service b4 the trip, try to get it done about 1 week b4 the trip just in case something was not tightened or installed properly . At least u will have a chance to have it rectified b4 the trip. Not very funny if u detect the problem on the NSH or going up/down the mountain. Or just wait till after the trip & do a complete service.
Ghostrider 3rd Gear June 4, 2007 Share June 4, 2007 If its 5k or more before 40k....just go Genting then come back and service. If you want peace of mind...just check and see if your brake pads have enough meat or not...if not get it replaced. But do it 1 week before you go or earlier cos you need time for the pads to bed in...around 500km there about. If its 1-2K before your 40k servicing...then just do it before you go. Genting not that far lah....the siong part is going downhill only....your brakes will get cooked if you ride on your brakes all the way down. Remember to use engine brake when possible. Hiphiphoray 6th Gear June 4, 2007 Share June 4, 2007 (edited) I will prefer to get the car serviced first before going. Cos its a damn nightmare finding a car repair station or tolling the car back. One way or the other, u will get "cut-throat", cos there are many extras $$$$$ involve. Not so simple one. Will be even worst if you got kids or infants onbd. Boyboy 1st Gear June 4, 2007 Share June 4, 2007 Brake pad can DIY visual inspection actually, at 40k, there shd be more than enuff pad left, unless the TS has bad driving habit or is a chiongster totally agree with pisces on doing it some tiem before the trip. same principle as letting engine run for few min after oil change to check for leak.. u dun just service and immediately zoom off on a long trip
Mzrmazda3 6th Gear June 4, 2007 Share June 4, 2007 Like majority of the Bros here whom had given their opinions, i would say send your ride in for 40K servicing and get the vehicle thoroughly checked before proceeding for your Genting trip Precaution is safer than cure
Djcoolmax 2nd Gear June 4, 2007 Share June 4, 2007 Go service your car before you go. Make sure you get them to check your tyres, battery and all the fluids in your vehicle. Also, get ready stuff for your car.. torchlight, Breakdown sign..better be safe than sorry bro! Enjoy your trip and drive safe.
Theman Clutched June 5, 2007 Author Share June 5, 2007 thanks to all bro advise, but i am departing this Friday, i afraid if i take the car t service tmr is too near. what do u guys think? thanks
Kklee 6th Gear June 6, 2007 Share June 6, 2007 AFAIK, going up/down mountainous areas usually is harsh on the engine oil as you would be constantly at a higher RPM range. This would also be harsh on the brake pads if yours an AT ( My style of driving, I have to change my front brake pads at 40k ). Reaching 10k service interval, the engine oil would have served it's useful purpose under normal driving thus if you go mountainous areas, there is a risk that the engine oil might turn acidic i.e. bad for the engine. IMHO, do go for that service and check your brakes. ↡ Advertisement
