I believe for N95, you will have to pay for everything!!!

(1)to have the turn-by-turn voice navigation;

(2)to have the maps being able to be used for real-time GPS tracking.

 

If you don't want to pay anything, the maps in the N95 is just as good as a electronic street-directory?

 

For 6110, seems everything is free right? (Unless you want to go overseas then you might have to purchase additional maps...)

IIRC, default 6110 SGMY map is the latest 2006 Q3. no new updates available.

 

I think you can also use the R66 CD to purchase maps and download to PC. No nid to pay GPRS

I think I have to installed Smart2go or Nokia Maps (i think N95 is using tt) to try.

alright.. zedge is quite good.. downloaded a couple of themes. As for the maps.. everything is in Euro! Damn expensive!

I have a recommendation for you.

 

download Nokia Maps (Smart2go) and the map loader.

Both free from smart2go website. the map loader will download map via the net and transfer to your phone

 

The no of maps you can have in your phone is limited by your memory card and cost nothing.

 

no turn by turn navi thou. But you can use it for free to find out where u are

just got it.

 

In summary,

GPS function (will kill someone)

 

Fault Found:

CTE towards SLE. Whampoa flyover ask me to veer right (which will lead me to a center divider) to a non existing road (shown on map)

 

Other fault:

Navigating to a hdb block number brings you to a nearest street only and may not be accurate.

 

 

Any good?

CTE tunnels: lost signal obviously. Required in about 10 sec after coming out of the tunnel

 

will do a more proper review when got time

anyway my phone's slider came loose and vibration died just after 2 weeks. Just sent it in for repair on Mon and got it back yesterday.

i have this problem too.

my GPS seems to not able to read signal from the satallite.

I did some reading up on GPS acquisition speed.

The speed is determined by

1) Clear skies (not cloudy, no tall builing etc)

2) Motion - in motion means harder to acquire.

3) COld, warm, hot start. with cold the slowest and hot the fastest speed

cold means you didn't use for a few hours or more and/or not at the last known location.

warm i think is used within few hours and is at last known location. hot means turning on the GPS shortly after using or losing signal in tunnel.

4) chipset? seems to play a role as well.

anyone got prob with the car-charger? my hp battery was flat and when i use the car charger, the hp don't even boot up, let alone charge.

i saw this from the web too.like that drive halfway then rain cannot navigate ready?

but how come those standalone GPS navigator can have strong signal compare to Nokia phone?

is it the quality of GPS?

it works with the rain this morning - maybe it's not raining hard enuff.

but its true that GPS works best with clear skies.

so far i haven't lose any signal yet.

 

i guess the GPS antennae is longer in those standalone?

 

the main gripe i have for 6110 is the lack of map update i guess. for e.g. HDB blocks not digitized.

 

Anyhow I bought the phone knowing that it won't be on par with Mapking or other standalone GPS unit.

for me, it's more like a toy rather than fulfilling a real need for navigation aid.

Any idea where to download dictionaries? I need a french one.
