Hi guys my 92' Swift failed its inspection at Vicom Yishun because the exhaust manifold is not original and as a result the car is apparently "too loud". This conclusion was made after revving my engine up to 4-5K rpm! [hur]

Tried to reason with the fooker that the old one had corroded long ago due to age but he insists that I will be able to find an original one at scrapyards, as if I'm so free like him?! Stupid thing is that this is my second time doing inspection there and I didn't have such an issue the last time around.

Can anyone advise me here or thru PM how I can get this damn inspection over with? My road tax/insurance needs renewal very soon [dead]

Supersonic

I feel Vicom Yishun a bit meow. A couple of months ago, I try to walk-in to apply for an approved aftermarket exhaust. They don't entertainment walk-in and say must reserved date; and their book is full until the following week. Then they want me to give this and that document. And say some silly things like I must get receipt for installation even if I get it free, I must manufacture a receipt.

So after I got the receipt, I got fedup and went to nearby Vicom at Sin Ming and got in done the next working day.

Hi kb27, for aftermarket exhaust you need to produce the following document:

1) Proof of Purchase & Installation Receipt

2) LTA Letter of Approval for aftermarket Exhaust

3) Certificate for the Exhaust from the Manufacturer

Anyway I got mine done at Kakit Bukit Vicom and there was some mixup on the paper work for my exhaust between LTA & the Manufacturer, I waited three hours there for them to clear up the paper work then proceed to get the exhaust tested and approved by Vicom ($36++). Then finally get my car inspection going, in that process they fail my undercarriage due to the top thermal plate was missing but I explain to them my is a old car (Civic 92) and its not there in the first place (subsequent check on parts manual show otherwise) after 15 mins of explanation then they finally pass (they spend another 15 mins going thru my engine bay, good thing I didn't change anything).

Although the experience left me abit angry with the time it had taken, but I kinda understand its their workscope I just hope they have a more systematic way to manage their work plus some flexibility in getting the process underway.

August will be my next round of inspection so keep my finger cross.

Did u ask the workshop to bring in for u or did u do it by yourself?

For a small handling fee, everything should be settled.

Beats swapping stuff here n there.. waste $$ and time.

Afterall, inspection is just a formality..

we'll all go back to what we originally had right? [laugh]

Sorry, just to side track abit.

Lets say if i purchase an exhaust from someone.

The guy never give me receipt as

1) this is either a 3rd hand or 4th hand exhaust.

2) the exhaust also does not have a cert

3) it is also not yet approved by LTA (no one mass applied for it yet as it is not popular yet)

If my 3rd year inspection comes up...

what are the available ways to pass the inspection other than switching the exhaust to original one??? any kind advice?

Is it possible to apply on own self to get this approved? What are the chances and estimated cost???

Thanks.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I brought the car in myself the first time and failed, today my mech brought it in but still failed. That centre really super f'ed up la [thumbsdown]

Just trying my luck, I called up Fong Kim just now who did the extractor and by some small miracle they have the original one at their workshop! Quoted me about $100+ for labour plus I get to keep the extractor after I'm done with it. [thumbsup]

Hi, My car is due for inspection soon, and it's my first car i have absoutely no idea what to expect during the inspection. I am driving a EG Civic ESi already with a color which can't gurantee a pass. Besides exhaust system, do they check other parts in the engine like strut bar, cone shaped cold air-filter etc? [sweatdrop]
