Cars may no longer be the preferred mode of transport for some who can afford to buy a car.

 

Take a look at the peak hour traffic along the expressways (CTE to city, TPE to Changi). The situation is getting from Worst to worst and even with pricy ERP, it is still jammed packed.

 

With ERP, traffic spills over to the major arteries link road surrouding the expressways, worsening the traffic situation. With revised bus lanes timing and stricter enforement.. traffic condition get worst.

 

At least with public transport, BMW (Bus, MRT, Walk), you get to your destination on time. Driving a car expose you to the erratic traffic condition and on rainy mornings, there are bound to be accidents that hold up traffic for 1/2 to an hour.

 

The government has truly been successful in making driving less desirable.

 

I for example used to drive to work. but now I keep an off-peak car for running errands after work and weekends. Switch to riding a motorbike and taking BMW on rainy days to work.

 

Lesser stress on the road = better work life and better health.. easier on the pockets too.

 

Big Cars COE might not be affected as the rich man cannot bring himself down to the level of taking "BMW". But for the middle income average JOE.. we have to really explore other ways to get to work and play.
