Albeniz Turbocharged April 23, 2008 Share April 23, 2008 [reply]Actually I was wondering about things like fine scratches. Since glossy paint is often polished and waxed and has a protective layer which can be renewed. And matt paint is just that? So it is actually not protected? Or is there also some kind of protective coating? And also things like oily stains from dirty hands or petrol. [reply] Matt paint are usually black. Can't really see the oily stains on black anyway. Testa_ross4 Clutched April 23, 2008 Share April 23, 2008 Yes you can see oily stains on matt surface but if you get a good paint or vinyl, it just washes off. If the paint or vinyl is not good to resist oil, the oil may attack the surface leaving a permanent stain.Matt vinyl certainly resists fine scratches, that is one of the reasons why I did it. Rliewky 1st Gear April 23, 2008 Share April 23, 2008 hi testa_ross4, how is the maintenance for a matt paint like compare to normal glossy paint we normally see on cars? i understand that matt paint is difficult to maintain and do get dirty easily. also dirt is more obvious on matt paint as compare to other paint, is that true? have been tempted by those matt paint car pictures posted, especially the ferrari 599. it just look stunning. it yours matt paint like the 599? it does look abit on the glossy side. Rliewky 1st Gear April 23, 2008 Share April 23, 2008 I believe the matt paint is only on the bonnet, right?
Testa_ross4 Clutched April 23, 2008 Share April 23, 2008 (edited) For me, the matt vinyl is way easier to maintain, my gloss paint had to be waxed almost every two weeks as I wash my car almost every day. My nylon cover which I use at work was the softest material but yet had very harsh scratches to the clear coat of the gloss bonnet and boot due to trapped dust. The matt vinyl is very easy to maintain and water easily beads off and wipes and washes clean. The matt vinyl does have a satin like finish and would look a bit shiny under strong lights. I tried to take some photos just now but my camera battery was kaput. Edited April 23, 2008 by Testa_ross4

Testa_ross4 Clutched April 23, 2008 Share April 23, 2008 Yes stick on and very easily removed, when you want. I feel it is cheaper and more flexible than respray the whole car. If my vinyl gets damaged due to whatever reasons, I will simply change it and my paint beneath would be as good as new.
