Agree, try not to U turn fast with Altis. Should reduce speed when driving on curvey roads (eg CTE turning to TPE)

Oh my..thats where my car skidded...

lol. and wads that supposed to mean? and no, im not an altis owner.

im jus being honest bout altis being a reliable for no-fuss cars.

if the car isn't good, singaporeans wouldn't buy it.

the best package would definitely be cheap and good.

its the marketing power of toyota.

many have come out to say that the altis isnt exactly a reliable and no-fuss cars. if u read the threads a week ago.

Honestly bro, I think ppl buy the Altis due to the herd mentality and the power of the Toyota brand than its inherent quality. The power and draw of the Toyota brand is nothing short of amazing, really. But the status the brand has today didn't come about without any real hard work put in by the marketing dept. Ok i know i am digressing..haha

Anyway, nothing wrong with buying a car for those reasons of course. But sometimes people do give too much undeserved credit to a popular car =)

exactly wat i thought.

in terms of engineering and reliability, i would give the credits to latio anytime, even tho i agree it looks a bit ugly. anyway altis isnt any better.

oh btw i drive a picnic. so i'm not biased

ditto. i was even told by the SE to just go for the classic scheme, as additional of 1k or 2k is not necessary as they can sure deliver and getting coe not a problem. my ride is scheduled to be delivered end oct to nov.

its simple. they'r still selling the same spec altis after all. they don't earn extra commission if they sell u the 1k more altis.

NO monetary benefits for them right?

but by urging u to buy the cheaper classic scheme, they have impressed u that they are not out to make u buy the more expensive version....

and the effect is propagated when u tell the whole forum how truthful they are.

This is an intangible long term benefit for them.

right, the SE said they dun earn anything from the extra 1 or 2k.

well, the SE sold 2 cars to my relative already, all same classic scheme, and all delivered.

Care to share those factors bro? I have a friend who is considering an Altis as well. Anyway, glad that you have gotten yourself a good deal =) enjoy your ride!

Just some common considerations. Using today's data at www.sgmart.com, i have summarise them in the attached file.

Basically, Lancer's FC is poor (price good, but after Feb, people are asked to top up after several bids), City is pricy (no doubt its may have better performance, but the space is not as big as Altis). Sunny is not as attractive as Latio. So the two contenders are Latio and Altis. I feel that Altis is quieter, although have to say that Latio's interior material appears better. Spaciousness are about the same.

There are some questions about the Curb weight of Latio in the forum: http://www.mycarforum.com/forum/gforum.cgi...people;#1884203

So my opinion is:

1. For performance and FC, consider City

2. For good FC and material quality, can consider Latio. But have to consider the weight you impose on it.

3. For quietness, good OMV, consider Altis.

I have a big family (3 kids, wife, mother) to fetch, and I like the more conservative business-like appearance, so I choose the Altis.

I have no problem with the Altis, after driving it for more than 5 months. But having previously drove the Corolla 1.5M Generation 9 for 6 years, I would say that the 1.6A Altis's pick up is not that good compared to the previous one. May be it is due to the differences between a manual and auto car.

My advice for your friend is to ask the distributor when the new model will arrive (hopefully it is the Corolla G10 Axio with FC of 17km/l). Then either BM may make a special price to clear the current Altis, or wait to get a new Corolla. Alternatively is to consider Axio from a reliable parallel importer.

Look at it this way, if Altis is near "End of Life", that also means all minor faults had been rectified and all the odds sorted. The production of cars gets new updates in different stage of their life. A near end of life model also goes cheaper.

Lastly, Its a Toyota, good choice.thumbsup.gif

i agree. But why so many of these in 2nd car market & selling cheap too...hmmmm

I test drove many cars in Feb 07 after the COE dip, and still end up buying Altis for a combination of factors. But what pleased me most was that although the COE keep climbing up and up, Borneo did not come up and asked me to top up the price. But I read from MCF that many buyers were faced with the plight. So quality, marketing, performance and seller's trustworthiness are important.

that is thumb up for BM in this aspect. [nod]

i'm 42, just passed my driving test couple of days ago (first try). the tester pity me and gave me the license [scholar][laugh]

i'm thinking of practical usage, and not so much on style.

I used to tink Corolla is for Ah Peks, But hell, I m wrong, quite a lot of youngsters also driving this one as well. My cousin is one such guy.

Btw, I drove his b4 up to KL.. I can say its a better car than my ride, Getz.. Feels safer, maybe becoz interior is bigger... Hee, and becoz handling is better.
