Yes, the trade-off is that hatch boot area will usually be shorter in length than an equivalent sedan. Another downside for hatches in Singapore is that sometimes cannot open hatch properly when reverse parked against a wall, or in one of our many "special design" HDB carparks.

 

But those 'special design' carparks are old design, I think in future won't built such carparks as it is not hatchback/SUV/MPV friendly.

My dad used to own one of those. It got quite a spacious boot.

Based on my experiences, I feel that it depends on what kind of items. Be it long but thin or short but wide. Generally, for wide items, with the seats down, the hatchback is more handy with the rear hatch safely closed.

yes, i do agree. If u have 1 huge item like a chair i think the best car to fit is probably the hatch. But if u have multiple items broken up into pieces in huge quantities the sedan would be a winner.

Generally sedans have larger boots as many hatchbacks have a truncated/shortened backside that reduces the depth of the boot. However, cars like the Mondeo and Vectra are not shortened much and the hatchback versions actually have huge deep boots that are very spacious!!

There are some odd-shaped things that Sedan can't carry, but Hatchback with seats folded down can.

 

For eg. Mountain bikes.

 

But generally, Sedan's boot space is more spacious.

And not forgetting 2 pretty ladies can fit into the hatchback boot, like the Mocca advertisement.

driver + 1 pax - hatchback win.

4 pax - sedan win.

 

but versality hatch win.. my frens small 1.3L hatchback can even put in mahjong table + tons of things on top of it when we went chalet, amazing.

get a airwave type of car! the boot space u can put 2 big dogs behind. or if budget allows, get a Saad Turbo 2.0T hatch back or new Volvo V70 2.5T, the boot is HUGE after 2nd row seats are folded!

I used to transport my bicycle to East Coast in my COE Civic GL sedan. The bicycle was an XL size. Both wheels in back passenger seat, the frame goes into the boot comfortably.
