Just to add to your charges to justify the mark up.

adjusting of odometer.

Covering up of accident area

STA evaluation of Grade A, somehow i never seen a C before, even B i think the most see once only. [sly]

Exchanging of premium parts with standard parts ( eg: ICE, sports seats, etc )

And i duno about the 7% but i guess is your comm.

And the most impt thing, a high markup is fine if i will have peace of mind with the car. But trying to pull the wool over the eyes is a no no.

Cool man bro, actually no right or wrong lah. Up to every individual. If you feel that spend a little time can save you few grands then direct sell lor. If you feel that the time you spend on direct sale is not worth the few grands then get the dealer's service lor.

But for me, i choose to save the few grands by selling direct. Maybe my income is not high enough. [laugh] Anyway, that time when i sell my car direct, a dealer actually offer to settle the all paper work for me at just $300. I find it quite reasonable and gave him the biz. So actually its not that difficult or troublesome. [thumbsup]

Yes, i always believe in direct owner sale. Its a win win for both buyer and seller. My friend recently sold his DC5r at $70k to a direct buyer. Before that, dealers actually only qouted him 60k...Do you think the buyer can get the car at 70k from that dealer?? No way. Anyway its not difficult to do a direct sale.

You can try to post your car at this free website www.carclassified.com.sg My friend sold his DC5R thru this site.

YEs not so diffult, i've sold most of my previous cars by myself.

I also tend to buy direct from owner. win-win

One more cost for dealers is the carrying cost for your car.

Unless the dealer happens to have several hundred dollars lying around and nothing to spend it on, he will have to borrow money to pay you for your car. The longer he takes to repay the loan, the more financing cost he has to incur.

The longer your car sits in his garage, the less space he has for a BMW 3-series, altis or vios or camry which will move in several days or weeks, max.

The longer your car sits in his garage, the higher the depreciation he has to bear.

Dealers want a quick turnover, so for an unusual car like an Alfa, which may sit in his garage for several months, he will price in the risk that he cannot sell it quickly for a reasonable profit.

For unusual cars, sell on your own if you don't want to suffer the losses that the dealer will demand form you.

Actually think most sellers are scared off by the paper work involved to sell direct; and so do buyers. Imagine a willing seller meeting a willing buyer and agreed on a price, what's next to do?....With a dealer, all this nightmare paper work including bank financing would be handled....but at a significant costs!!

So, think it would be extremely helpful to hear from experienced buyer/seller who usually transact on their own (ie, without dealers)as to how things could be handled easily?

Is there some sort of middle man (must be reliable of course) who can help to take care of all paper work at an acceptable fee (say, few hundred $$)? Where to find these middle men?

Also, what' the most effective channel to advertise selling car by owner themselves? Still SGcarmart?

Have seen some private ads on SGcarmart, interested, but drop the idea when blur blur about paperwork involved....
