but then u look at the kind of comments some vivan and some "doktor" make in barleyment, not surprising to see its reflection in the pple.

making fun of pple wearing a hearing aid...that's your "elite" leader for you.

To be frank, SQ should have prepared one copy of newspapers per passenger in the plane.

I think one copy of newspaper to be shared by a small family of passengers should be reasonable. Every passenger in the individual family group rotates/exchanges the sections to read. The duration of the flight is a few hours, so everyone should have ample time to read. [;)]

If every passenger is entitled to one copy, then the amount of newspapers on board the plane would qualify the SQ as a karung guni store room. The additional fuel can be quite substantial. [;)]

I would prefer them to carry something more useful like additional

emergency kits/medications etc. Huge amount of newspaper can be quite a fire hazard.

Not just Straits Times, they also carry other newspaper too. One copy per passenger might be too much.

Totally agree. If we extend the 'every customer's entitlement' logic, we could end up with double ration (vegetarin/normal) per passenger... and dunno how many extra cans of beer per flight. [laugh]

Sabian Bro,

How r u? Everything okay at yr end?

U r right abt our ministers. To prevent my kids from exhibiting such behaviour (got parents birth but no parents teach abt moral values besides our academic education), I take a very stringent approach when correcting their wrong doings.

Our ministers nowadays really "no eye see, Spore future where graciousness is concerned will be in an abyss".

My end here, ok lah but cannot compare with S'pore. Still fly back often monthly cos here can be boring unless u into "eco tourism" or cultural stuff. Other than that, if don't club, don't golf, don't drink, can be pretty bored.

Never watched so many movies in my life. The DVDs are one life saver here.

But I think u have a betta time in BKK. [;)]

The straits times got advertisements, cartoon jokes, ..... after the flight can still sell to garang guni.

Sometimes "kiang" is enough. No need "kay kiang". If her father asked for it himself, there would not been an issue. Don't know english also can use cheena language to ask for ang mor paper one.

I actually had similar encounters just very recently also. Also happened to be travelling with family + kids. We had toys for kids - no problems. But food was a problem.

My 2 kids were sleeping when they were serving so they said they are going to keep it later or let us take away if it's too late to eat. Ok. No problems.

And my kids did actually slept all the way until touch down. Then we asked for their food but then was told that "oh....sorry we cannot give you take away as we are afraid the food will be contaminated if not consumer within 2hrs and we cannot take this responsibility and therefore I'm really sorry about it. But we can give you bottled infant food for your son."

At that point, I don't know if I should feel embarrassed as she said it quite loudly and it appeared as if I wanted to tabao the food and she's trying very hard to explain to me that I cannot do this. But in the first place, she was the one who told me that my kids' meals can be served later or tabao. But I didn't realised she only meant the infant food for my boy only while my daughter's kids meal cannot tabao. It was not explained to me. But most imptly I'm not hard up for the food lor it's just that I didn't realise this otherwise I would have still asked them to serve my daughter's meal and I wake her up first to eat.

Anyway I did not complain about it and just accepted it but my daughter was hungry already. So I told her that I know kids meals comes with packet milo and I want that. That won't be spoilt within 2hrs. They then said ok but I have to wait till it landed and all passengers leave liao then she'll give as they have already packed everything and it's about to land liao.

For my case, I don't think I can fault them except for that they did not clarifiy everything at first. But maybe also SQ girls are usually very young and most of them are probably not yet mothers and they don't know the "logistics" of young children. As a parent, you feel very concerned if your child is hungry and you don't have food. It was lunch time that time.

Yes I think renewing Krisflyer is quite stringent. I feel it's a bit not flexible enough and can easily drop out if you don't meet their target.

I heard from my colleagues that they seems to be able to extend their memberships more easily on other star alliance network.

I travel very frequently on asia routes and maybe about 2-3 times to europe/US and so it seems like I've got to stick with KF as it doesn't seems to make economical sense to ie change another frequent flyer program based elsewhere. SQ is probably also quite cheap to fly if I'm always departing from SG. Or am I wrong?

ie, maybe Thai air is cheaper? but I'ld have to always transit at BKK to go to my final destination. And due to transit, it's a complete waste of time and it can also be more expensive than a direct flight by SQ.

Thats if you board early. If too late, the papers are kept. Or if they don't have that many copies, they will not put it on the aerobridge. Then they will start offering the papers from 1st/business class and then leftovers will bring to economy.

Ever discussed in a certain thread involving someone with a similar-sounding nick as the lady who complained... sly.gif...some ppl are 'introverts'. Meaning when faced with something, just keep quiet, then later on make a lot of noise. Which, according to the description of the incident, does sound like the lady is such a person.

warou... so long ago u buay song until now? don't think is her. she barely making ends meet.

Not buay song la...just using it as an example to compare to the kind of person the letter writer probably is. Otherwise this issue wouldn't have erupted in the papers and would have been solved either immediately on the flight or upon touchdown at the airport.

what you suggest is ideally...but bear in mind that the fare will rocket not just by SGD0.80 per person. Its newspaper first...Afterwhich airline will need prepare two choice of meal for each pax.... [nod][nod] My mum flip the Strait Times too altough she do not understand....HA HA....Looking at advertisement....Cause English newpaper got more then te chinese...

Yep that is in the most ideal situation, when something advertises its service as being top-notch and customers expect the same too. It is weird if papers are given out selectively within the same class.

Some forummers have explained why it is impossible to carry one copy of every paper per passenger. I understand that. But then the crew should probably not give out the papers at all and only give if asked if they know they don't have sufficient copies for everyone. And since some have highlighted that the plane carries several different papers, I don't understand why the stewardess couldn't have offered a 'less-popular' newspaper as an alternative or like others have suggested, simply promise to come back with a copy if there are leftovers after distributing the papers to all the passengers. It's quite a no-brainer as those working in the service industry should know.

I was wondering...who highlighted the sentences to shift the focus of the letter such that the letter-writer got flamed instead. Was it our TS? Or was it copied from elsewhere? Maybe it's the stewardess or her friends who did it to ridicule the letter-writer and shift the blame away from herself.... [sly]

Well...if it was indeed so...then she/they've succeeded. [laugh]

At least in your case the stewardess was apologetic and explained well the reason why they don't allow you to tabao the food. She also offered an alternative, which was the bottled infant food.

Imagine if the stewardess said directly, "Can you buy food at the airport because we don't allow passengers to take away food from the airplane?"

If the stewardess explained that there aren't enough papers to go round, that's still acceptable. All that's left is her tone. But she flatly said that other passengers are waiting for a copy. That's crap! [shakehead]

No, they have not succeeded.

If this is for real, the SQ stewardess shd be sent for training again with her pay docked. The differentiating factor that sets them apart from the waitresses on the ground is the service standard. Without that, they are just waitresses in the air.

If any of my service staff tried this kind of stunt with the customers, EVEN IF THE CUSTOMER IS WRONG, there will be consequences for shaming/ embarrassing the customer.

No choice if you have to stick with them. I try not to fly SIA as far as possible. I could have taken SIA to Auckland and connect to South America from there but I chose to fly CX to NYC (stayed a day there) and then connect down to Rio. Took me more than 24 hours of flying but worth it cos was upgraded to Business Class from HK to NYC. I love flying CX to say the least
