Plastic bag

You see the blue trash container ? Supposed to be for recycling.

They even have stickers showing what you can throw there, cardboard, papers, plastic bottle, glass, no food. etc.

So you do your part and put only those mentioned there.

But apparently, someone saw this, when the truck comes around, they lift the blue container and dumped into the truck bin.

As well as green container and anything.

What recycling ? [laugh]

Here you go.

After getting caught, maybe change SOP. Instead of anyhow dumping it at the truck level, maybe do it back in base. Does NEA track what they do to the garbage in base?

They only do things that are profitable or can boost their PR image to the 70% of sheep.

And from the way our latest selected President came to existence, we all know that it is not a matter of lack of resources or means. IF they want something done, it can be done and will be done. -_-

Stop being frog in well lah.

Even Jusco in Malaysia is charging customer for plastic bag.

Bring Your Own Bag

Can you really anticipate the number of things you buy in the supermarket?

In Malaysia, most people drive. There is no issue for them since they can put in as many as their own bags in the car.

Just take more from the car if not enough.

Here?

There are more options available, other than just charging more.

Cannot agree with you on this.

When has Malaysia been a role model for things done right? (even if ours are crap to begin with)

Still debating?

Just an excuse for supermarkets to increase profits. If they are genuine about the environment, I don't mind paying the 5 or 10 cents for plastic bags but the profit should be donated to environmental charities (in perpetuity hor, not just first year). Any tax savings from donations should also be donated back.

Well, to be frank, Singapore is quite behind in terms of recycling. As a developed nation, our recycling culture is quite far away from other countries, so I actually think this is a gd step forward. We got to start somewhere for the sake of our kids in the future. If the govt asked all of us to start sorting all our rubbishes before we dump them, I'm sure there'll be even more resistance...

I would actually support sorting out our garbage before dumping, just like in Japan. But it won't be easy because many of us live in flats, and would find it too much of a hassle to specially bring down recyclable trash down to a disposal area a few blocks away. We could have more recycling bins near lift landings so that we can throw easily when going out.

More than 10 yrs, I have to pay money for plastic bag in Munich.

In term of charging plastic bag, Malaysia has been in line with other developed countries years ago.

Well, you always have the option of bringing a backpack along to supermarket.

The recycle bin in my estate looks like another rubbish bin.

A lot of ppl have no idea that it is a recycling bin

Still, that doesn't make Germany the role model society of the world to live by.

We all know how many U-turns these supposedly developed advance civilization have shat on the rest of the world....most recently the big Diesel U-Turn.

Education, role modeling is what Singapore need. Not profiteering thinly veiled under excuse of environmental protection.

Charging more for plastic bag will only work as part of a wider  nation wide govt lead effort in education and behavioral cajoling. So far I have only seen concerted effort in forcing a selected President down our throat that we did not choose.

Or the backpack is too much?

Precisely. If corporates are really keen about the environment, they should too bear some costs of achieving that or at least looking at alternatives that are more environmentally friendly.

Using the name of environment for the sake of profiteering is equally irresponsible.
