It is really stupid to allow Japanese and Korean dramas to be shown in it's original language and yet do not allow cantonese drama to be in cantonese. Nolicense Turbocharged April 21, 2008 Share April 21, 2008 here's how i look at it. 1. no economic purpose, will die out 2. some in china can speak the dialects, but the young ones cannot, also dying there 3. cultural identity? nothing to speak of. our brand of dialect is pasar dialect, mixed with malay words and english words. taiwanese and mainlanders can tell instantly when we speak dialect to them if we let slip words only spoken here. 4. if they want to hire teachers, they won't hire locals to teach. more FT 5. talk to the aged in sg? wait a few more years, there won't be many left who can't speak a smatter of one of the official languages.
