On the way home from Bishan today abt 11.30am, witness an accident between a Nissan Cedric taxi and VW Passat. All caught in my camera but there is a car in front so the impact was blocked.

The VW was turning right and the taxi going straight. Immediately after impact, VW still can drive to the side of the road with its front totally gone.:z The stupid Altis driver in front stare n didnt move after green light, I need to horn him for him to move. [furious]

Enjoy the video. If u happen to know either party n need the original footage, let me know.

Was the accident ALREADY occured before you stop behind the Altis at the junction?

Or was the VW accident happening WHILE you were behind the Altis at the junction?

Can't seems to see the VW or taxi passing on the limited left/right side of the Altis leh!

Off topic a little.

Pardon my ignorance to this question.

I was just wondering why your video camera could record the LED traffic lights as flickering lights but unable to record the Altis's rear LED brake lights as flickering lights?

Any expert care to comment on this phenomenon?

As to why the traffic light is flickering and not the Altis brake light, i believe the traffic light LED's is "scanning" at a very fast rate (turning on and off) whereas the Altis brake light is solid on. this has to do with the driving method used to drive the LEDs, if you know what i mean.

Yo bro,

Elevator man is right. The traffic light is refreshed (just like your TV) at a certain frequency, say 50 or 60Hz. Looks solid to the human eye because our eyesight can be fooled if the refresh rate is high enough.

For safety, I think that the Altis rear brake light is fully on all the time when applied. This is also to reduce additional circuitry required to perform the refresh as you don't always have your brake lights on continuously.

The idea of implementing this on the traffic light is probably two fold - (i) the traffic lights are used 24/7 so doing this results in power savings, (ii) and this also extends the life of the LEDs as they are only on for a certain amount of time before turning off.
