The official statement is that the Northeast monsoon runs from nov till march. Exactly which part of nov is anybody's guess.

If i'm you I'll visit Kuantan other time.

Year end is always monsoon season. Should avoid road trips into malaysia, especially those eastern coastal roads where flooding is very common.

Since u oredi book the accom, do drive carefully.

Kena many times heavy downpour on the NSH, so bloody heavy until can only see 2 small little red dot of the car's lights in front nia. Sometimes cant even see the white lines of the road, just aga aga stay in the road centre nia. [dizzy][dizzy][dizzy]

There will usually be heavy rain during that period (traditionally a monsoon season). Just drive carefully if it does rain heavily, be patient and ready to take prolong stop at a safe place for condition to improve.

Worse thing is to head on even if the condition is very bad.

Well, even if it doesn't flood, its probably going to rain and that means that the drive will be even slower and feel even longer than it already is. And when you get to your destination, it'll likely be raining sporadically through out the day which means that you can't really go to the beach and if you want to go shopping in Kuantan itself, you might as well be in JB as the shopping would be much better there. Even if it were a free hotel stay, I wouldn't go. If it were a free hotel stay and a free VIP coach ride, I might consider.

..many thanks to all bros for all the valuable advices. I have decided to

embark on this trip despite the not so good weather. Infact I have not even booked any accomodation yet and is still looking 4 a good budget hotel to stay with in Kuantan, any recommendation?.

My 2cents:

If visibility is poor at the h/way due to rain, you will see drivers using hazard lights.

Now, we have been bombarded by advice against using hazard lights in Sin, which is quite true. They always advise us to stop at a safe place instead of continuing driving.

However, in Msia, drivers will start using hazard lights when visibility is poor. I find it quite good as you can see the cars in front (most of the cars are not equipped with rear foglight).

If you don't have rear foggie, may I suggest you also do like the Romans do in Rome because:

i) it helps others to spot your car

ii) most importantly, in a sea of hazard lights, your car will be invisible if you do not switch them on!

Also, do NOT ever stop at the roadside when you are travelling on the h/way unless during emergency. Many people who did that have been hit by other vehicles, most of the time fatally.

I don't advise using hazard lights..... many near incidences of accidents because the idiots will cut in or out and you'll not know since the signal lights will get over-ridden by the hazard. Unless you have separate hazard lights that blink

Your point is illogical. Even if you don't use your hazard lights, how do you prevent the so-called idiots from cutting in/out with THEIR hazard lights on?

Like I said, if you can't stop them then join them. If everyone switches their hazard lights, you will be invisible if you don't do so.

Besides, it does not take a genius to realise that you can prevent confusion during lane switching by simply switching off the hazard lights BEFORE you signal and change your lane.

Besides, some cars have this feature where the signal indicator will override the hazard lights as long as the signal indicator stalk is turned on.

We have argued this at length and got the TP or LTA's official view and yet there are people who choose not to comply! [thumbsdown] Hope the REAL hazard can be differentiated when one encounters it!

I am now at Kuantan staying at the Seri Cherating resort hotel. I used the no.3 federal road which took me a total about 6 hours to reach with a average pace of 90km/hr. The weather is rainy along the way. However drive is pleasant n smooth n relax with an occasional heart break of overtaking trucks which dun normally do that here in sg. Weather wise as for today, is totally fine n sunny n windy as at the seaside so it is a blessing n hope it will to continue for another day. Its rather quiet n peaceful here with much locals but few visitors probably due to year end moonsoon.
