CNG car still need to pump petrol?

heard that CNG cars still need to consume petrol about 1L to 2L per day. Is that true? got a friend who's thinking of switching. Any CNG bros care to shed some light. The CNG cab and the cabby says he needs $5 of petrol a day. If that is so it works out to be at least $100 on petrol for normal users even if they switch to CNG which imo makes the conversion less effective.

To reply you, yes.

You need petrol to start your car first. CNG will kick in later and depending on the setting by the installer, it can run fully on CNG.

Some bros prefer to idle in petrol (traffic light, jam) while others like myself runs fully on CNG after start-up.

However, I would strongly advised your colleague to postpone the thought until the local authority is more clear on the policy they wanna implement (special tax after 2009).

Since your colleague is going JB, just save the trouble and pump the petrol there. Even my frugal FIT only hit 300km on a full tank of CNG with >70% HW driving.

Ultimately, its his decision.

why switch to cng when petrol prices are so low now

Even though petrol prices are low, CNG is still lower. Mandai is now registering sub-$1 to an equivalent litre of petrol.

Of course the other thing is whether you got balls to take on the gamble over this special tax thingy.

The statistics however are there. 3800+ bifuel vehicles versus 451,745+24,446 private passenger cars+taxis in total.

As long as people are scared of the special tax, bifuel vehicle owners like me will benefit.

Your friend has to make the decision with balls. The range is alright. Storage is OK if you can live with some boot space gone. The stations are coming up. Too many taking up CNG-bifuel vehicles, the higher chances this gahment will implement this special tax. Less than 0.1% of passenger cars are bifuel. If the gahment ruins and cuts the lucrative CNG fueling business here at what I still call infancy, might as well not start this bifuel business in the first place.

7000km a month is really no joke

i think your friend more than qualify to join the diesel car club already

even though the tax is 4 times more, the savings from using diesel for the extreme mileage will be savings enough

some more there is no 3/4 tank rule for diesel

just karh karh drive in empty and upfront declare
