however, as you move up the scale, look at the Cerato (Avante) VS Altis VS Lancer and Civic...blindfold yourself and get into these 4/5 cars, and you'll still know that you're in a Korean or Japanese car, no matter how well build the car is...fact is, Cerato is rather well build, with soft touch plastics, but the design, knobs (instead of buttons in the Japanese)- aircond front, design as you run your fingers around, still shouts japanese or koreans...

and the 2.0L cars such as Camry, sonata and magentis, teana and accord, speak for themselves...i figured out, the reason why Sonata ($58,999) cost more than the New Magentis ($52,111), despite having a lot less features, such as the lack of auto headlights, wipers, electric driver's seat, 1 pax airbag, digital climate control, ECM...is the build quality...the Magentis interior is still the same as the last model, so hard plastics are still used, compared to the Sonata soft touch material...and when you look at the Sonata and Magentis dashboard, you'll immediately know that these two cars are korean...what you didn't pay for i guess is the design of the interior and the lusktere interior ambience...

however, what impressed me was the camry...the Borneo Motor made-in-thailand version seems better build and better screwed together than the JDM version...with the leather and soft-touch plastics, the feeling when seated inside the camry was like being seated in a Lexus...with luxury feeling coupled with the two-tone interior, rather than just a large version of an Altis (or Cerato/Avante for that matter). the camry 2.0L retails at $76,488 which is around $20k more than the Korean counterpart, but really, you're getting yourself a Lexus, not a larger Altis...

so it's the design and soft-touch materials that contributes to the reason why Japanese still instills in us a better mentality than the Koreans... [laugh][grouphug]

let me put it this way...i'm on neither side...however, i've actually figured out the difference between the Koreans and Japanese...

you do get what you pay for...where do i start???

after been to the Kia and Toyota showroom...i've came out with an obvious difference...point is, you buy koreans because they are cheap...they still have a long way to go to improve their brand image...

see, the Picanto is a good example of a cheap and good (decent) car...you don't really expect that kind of attention to detail in the design and well screwed together dashboard in this class of cars...i mean compared to the Viva or QQ, you are in a totally different league altogether...the Picanto can be considered a 'branded' supermini...it's selling from $27,888 (with no airbag, rear power windows and ABS), whereas the QQ starts from $17,999 (comes with 1 airbag and ABS as well as 4 power windows)...Viva malaysian boleh at $30,999 but comes with 2 airbags and ABS, but both the Viva and QQ cannot compete with the Picanto's workmanship and attention to detail as well as the quality...and engine refinement...

I agree with you. I always recommend Picanto to all my friends who ask me to recommend a car in this price range.

Riceracer...haven't you read my next post??? for ultimate cheap car...like the picanto...go for that one...if not get japanese...

up till now...those who get Cerato, Rio, or Avante still can't afford the real Altis or Vios...

those who get the Sonata or Magentis, are those who actually want a Camry, but can't afford it...not because they want a korean car...

How come people seldom discuss Chevrolet? Izzit becoz many think it is an AMERICAN car? [confused]

Many forget that the Korean Chevrolet is actually Daewoo in disguise. I once went to a Chevy showroom and the sales girl told me its IMPORTED from AMERICA making it sound like an all-American car.

I once saw a big silver Chevy Sedan in town, looks like a big engine version coz it leaped off the traffic light like Usain Bolt. :D

What a joker. How much is Vios? [hur] Its a less than 50k cheapo japanese car. The difference between Hyundai and Japan car is only minute. But you always sound like japanese car owners are in the same league as those paying 200k+ range. Wake up, the price of a single BMW7 alone can buy more than 3 japanese Camry.

There are also new 1.6 cars in the Hyundai new offering like i30 but you stayed in the used car garage and failed to mention. To you, Korean only means picanto. Like that kind of mentality really a loser.

I drive Santa Fe and if you drive only a toyota altis, you mean you pay more than me?

deh...i'm comparing car to car...altis to avante...camry to sonata...

not santa fe to altis...that doesn't make sense...

rio cost $33,999 but vios starting from $41,988... that's almost 10k difference, which is a lot considering this class of buyer...

The difference exist only because you are restricting yourself to one-eyed comparison. Why not choose car from Hyundai? You mean Hyundai not from Korea. And rio is 1.4 but vios is 1.5, Rightfully you paid more for larger engine cap. Even 10k is the real difference. But toyota camry owner pretend like riding a BMW7, that's a whopping 200k+ difference. This jap owner is the real bragger

I saw that one before. That's the mother of all Korean Chevy. I think I saw Gurmit Singh drives one too...

Take it easy bro, I guess not everybody looks at cars purely based on price [flowerface]

When i booked the rio back in 2006 as my first car, I booked it based purely becos i like that car and the interior & ride refinemt is so much better than the vios sold during that time. Nothing to do with budget (coz i'm not the one paying)....and its paid in cash :P

That is Chevrolet Lumina, 3.6L V6. Yes, Gurmit drove one because he was hosting Singapore Idol and Chevy was the sponsor, not sure if he's still driving it though. It's not Korean though, it's made in Australia by Holden, sold there as the Holden Commodore.

hee, tats the funniest line I hear....

I actually discarded the Vios, cannot be compared to Avante, becoz firstly its too cramp, and not too pretty compared.... And its loud....

And Altis, errm, its a bit uncle looking for me, and I dun rate Altis over the Corolla Axio...

And If I want a Camry I would like a 2.4 not a 2.0...

And if I want a Altis, I make sure its a 1.8, coz 1.6, errmm, underpowered....Go ask our MY neighnours why they want a 1.8 instead, sure their road tax no much diff for both

I'm 100% sure the Lumina is made in Australia. The other Commodore variants (Vauxhall Monaro in the UK, Pontiac GTO in the USA, etc) are also made in Australia and exported to other countries.
