Need help from bros here....

hi all fellow bros, i am doing this to help my friend...

 

 

this incident happen in Sin Lim Square basement car-park on Firday 13th March. As he entered the car-park, he followed behind a black 7-series BMW. There was a empty lot on the right of their car and the BMW filter right and switch on the hazard light and stopped. As he already stopped his vehicle and was not moving, my friend filtered to the left and drove ahead.

All of a sudden the black BMW move ahead and turn to his left without checking his blind spot and hit my friend's car from the driver door all the way to the rear fender.

They alighted from the car and the driver in the BMW told my friend that he is sorry and ask my friend to repair his car and to claim from his insurance, the BMW driver said he was in a hurry to meet someone as he is buying a yacht and gave my friend his mobile number.

 

The car was send to a workshop and under the workshop advise to call the BMW driver to check if he has reported the incident to his insurance, my friend found out that the number he gave belong to another guy! The guy on the line claim that he is not the person and told my friend that the guy is a con-man.

My friend is not aware of the proper procedure and thus is lost in this situation.

 

How do we check the owner of the BMW's particular? My friend have taken a photo of the both cars after the collision and the number plate of the BMW is visible.

 

Please if any bro can help in this indentification on the BMW driver, my friend would be much grateful so that he can got the repair done and get on with his life.

Does ur fren recall the BMW's car plate number?

 

If no, then perhaps he could ask for assistance from the security if they have cctv. Worst case is he have to bear the repair costs himself

The insurance/workshop claim department will do the necessary tracking for him. Get it assess properly.

i suppose your friend has also obtained the driver's name, address, etc from his nric?

 

one of the sop is to take picture and exchange particulars...

then just give to workshop/insurance and let them handle.

 

long time back when i kenna accident, took pic, video, obtained particular of the other guy, indicate the damage on the form, then get tow truck and go workshop, then give everything to them and they settle everything.

some little gritty detail the workshop call u could be to decide whether to change whole bumper and panel or knock back..

if can knock back, i suggest u do so.. will still look new, and will save the whole industry lots in claims..

i never had to call the other guy, even tho i have his mobile.

 

btw, u call the other party if u want to settle out of insurance

I rem there is a thread saying that if the other party do not report, there is nothing the insurance company can do unless, the TS's friend go make a police report citing hit and run

call yr insurance and they will send a surveyor (I know alliance insurance does that) down to yr place to assess the damage.

 

Also this is a good lesson for all bro/sis to learn from.

must call the mobile number on the spot to ensure that is a working number.

for me, i always insist on exchanging ICs..... i give u mine, u pass me yours so that we can jot down each other's particulars. Also, i will insist giving the fellow a call on the spot so that i know his HP no. is for real.

 

Well... at least u're friend have the car plate of the BMW.... call up his insurance coy since it's mandatory to file a report. They can help trace the owner....

all my friend want is for the BMW driver to at least stand up and act like a man mah....

Did the BMW driver exchange name card with your friend? I gathered that was how your friend got the BMW driver's hp. Next time, should call the hp number given and see if the hp does ring or not.

 

But nevermind, your friend has got the photo and the reg. number plate of that BMW. At least your friend got some lead to work on. Neverming if that BMW belongs to that driver at the time of incident or not. Do take note of all these particulars. Because your friend's case is against the BMW. If the owner admit fault then that's fine else the owner has to provide driver's particular of who was the driver at the time of incident.

but then, in an accidents, there shdn't be any discrimination, be it a cheapo COEed cars or a expensive luxury make..

 

anyway, since there's photo with car number, just let the insurance do the job..

Hi 'G8888K',

 

1) When the BMW collided with your friend's car, was there any Sim Lim Sq security guard or one of their

personnel who witnessed the incident?

 

2) As one of the members have mentioned, check with the security guard if their CCTV has captured the

accident.

 

3) Since your friend or you have the BMW's number plate and if the driver not the owner of the car, report

the case to the police. Though this is not required as no one is injured, it is better to lodge a report. You

will not be able to obtain from LTA the BMW owner's name and other details but the police has the

authority to do so. The police will also be able to trace the driver.

 

4) Never, never leave the case to your friend's insurance company to handle. Let me share with my

experience why. My son had encountered an accident once while driving one of my cars. While he was

turning from the opposite side of the road to my place while vehicles from the opposite direction stopped

before and after the yellow box. Out of the blue, a motorcyclist from the opposite direction squizzed

between 2 buses and smashed onto left front and rear doors.

 

When I reported the incident to my insurance, they told me that I have no case and have to bear for my

own repairs including the motorcylist bike as the latter has right of way cos' he was riding straight. The

latter insurer was NTUC. I also reported the accident with the olice station

 

I brought my car to the insurance's authorised workshop and the boss also told me that I have no case as

he has never came across such case where vehicle owners as in the same as my son, has won claims

against the other party.

 

I then told my motor insurance that I would pursue the case and repair costs of my car against the

motorcyclist's insurer myself. NTUC engaged lawyer to fight the case while I represented myself.

Eventually, I won the case and NTUC paid for the cost of my repairs and loss of use of vehicle. I then got

my motor insurance company to close up the case.

 

The police then took action against the motorcyclist for riding rashly on public road without due care

of other road user. He was fined and given demerit points.

 

5) As per my son case above, tell your friend not to claim from his own insurance as otherwise, his NCB if

any, will be affected. When come to insurance renewal, your friend will have to pay much more.

Pursue the case under 'right of way and the driver of the BMW drove without due care and of other vehicle'

and make the BMW owner pays for the damages.
