If I were living in France,it would make sense to buy a French car right?Parts would be easily available.

Sure.

But I have never sat in a Japanese car with 500,000km that looks and feels as tight as a Citroen C5 taxi. Bearing in mind I do not like French cars or think anything of them, it has at least changed my mind about their longevity.

The world is so small these days. Parts availability should not be a problem especially when they are rampant in other parts of the world.

yes, average cars that locally assembled like proton, perodua, renault kangoo.

iirc for those cbu units, the import tax/duty comes to 3OO% + an import permit.

a model of citreon car (cant remember wat model) is locally assembled, w/out hydro suspension.

maybe the winning point is the hydro suspension [thumbsup]

ever ownd a bx16 in early 8Os, mechanic in jaybee recomed installd add1 washer container, round up with needle holes rubber hose similar with wiper/washer around those semi round hydro booster system.

in trafic jam, times to times press e electrical switch botton so water goes around tat boosters, jz for cooling purposes, but hv to add water to that xtra tank every morning. [sleeping]

in old days, we alway joke:

if 1morning ur "see too yuan"(it seems the correct french pronounctn as to citreon) fail to float, u r driving an old uk oxford lorry liow [laugh]

IIRC, only those high end models are tax close to 300% (luxury tax) [sweatdrop]

even the Harley-Davidson bike in MY is more ex than SG (after conversion) a couple of years ago [sweatdrop], not too sure about now

It is almost impossible for any one manufacturer to overhaul their quality and built philosophy over night. Unless they sack the whole bunch of R&D, production team and change all their current suppliers.

Hence, whatever changes is only skin deep.

I drive a C5, I have to admit it is not as trouble-free as my previous Focus, but C&C is doing a great job with service quality and has picked up lots of experience fixing faults by now. So they rectify problems quite fast.

Initially in the first year (bought under Advance Auto), I had some minor electronic glitches (sensor faults), but after sensor replacements (under C&C warranty), the car has been trouble-free and is coming to 4 years. I guess that's the problem with a car chock full of technological advances. However, I never had major problems that resulted in roadside breakdowns.

Ride-wise, the suspension is really comfortable with good handling. Engine is very good and reliable. Main gripe is the old technology 4 speed gearbox.

I had a C5 before and I know what you mean.

But I also ask myself, would I want to go through these trouble to fix re-occuring problems even if it is free. The down time i mean. Basic functions can be down at early life of the car.

Many previous owners says the ride is superior and they stick to this brand. But I don't think their ride is really that great. Perhaps these owners have not tried other better brands.

Design wise you can't fault the French. They are in this designer goods biz for a long time in past history.

Agree. The french are really good in design. [thumbsup] [thumbsup]

I am looking to upgrade to an MPV recently and test drove the Grand Picasso a month ago. The design on the Picasso exhibit the french flair which puts the German marques to shame (note better Zafira and Touran). The 1.6 mini-"Turbo" engine is quite impressive. And the ride quality is above expectation - handling is good, suspension is tuned perfectly.

But i agree with Svtfocus, the amount of technology in the Picasso is worrying. Using the parking brake as an example, i am not sure about the reliability of a "touch button" parking brake. What if it fails while parking on a slope? It will take alot of courage to embrace these technology. Hopefully C&C can up their ante and throw in a 5yr comprehensive warranty.

heard that this ride can move on a straight road even with three wheels. Amazing~

Only those citroens equipped w hydropneumatic suspension can. So C4s cant drive on 3 wheels.
