Sugar Neutral Newbie July 15, 2009 Share July 15, 2009 I got a colleague who has just tendered his job. He said he is going to be a property agent, saying how much money agents can make. So i want to find out how much does a full time property agent make. Not the top agents and not those that just join for a few months only. Those really average agents who is doing full time and has been in this field for say 5 years? I also know it depends on whether the economy is booming or in recession....but just a really average figure. Thanks ↡ Advertisement

Flats, Condos, Landed, Commercial... which area she looking at..... If your friend says all then i will say highly impossible. Most agents have a specialty depending on their contacts. Also different type of properties has slightly different rules and laws.... but i would say for a hardworking agent, 3-5k is possible a month. For those with contacts or referrals, maybe 10k and above. Ask your fren rem one thing, referral is the most important in being a property agent. Silverkris 5th Gear July 15, 2009 Share July 15, 2009 It is very difficult to judge how much a property agent earns. Definitely not 3-5K a month as they dun earn fixed. But put it this way, let's say he represents a company (ERA, etc), and he takes on a case to hep you shift home. Selling off your existing flat at 200K, he earn 2 percent = 4000 Buying a new flat for you at 300K, he earn 1 percent = 3000 after he pays his agent company, he will bags about $4,000. But that is for one case. Normally agents cannot depend on one case alone for the whole month (else the rest of the month do what??) so normally he will take on 2 - 3 cases per month. The rest will depend on whether the transactions is successful and you can calculate how much a housing agent earns then.
Jlyb86 Neutral Newbie July 15, 2009 Share July 15, 2009 really depend, been in this line for close to 2 years. Started really lucky, people around me was buying and selling. Average a month 4-8k shouldnt be a problem if you know what to do. Guidance is important in this line rather than throw you alone in the deep blue sea. Always had a stat at the back of my head, when in course they will tell you. 10% will survive, 5% will make some $, remaining 5% will do min 50K a year. 80% fall out.. which means even before you start your chances of failing is 80% Good luck changing that. Because hard work in this line doesnt gurantee anyhting, seen my fair share of gung ho people working but in the end still went find FT job

As above, Its like playing mahjong, sometime you 'hu' yi tai 5 times also not as good as 1 wu tai. Can close 10 room rental a month also not as good as selling one private apartment. Benarsenal Turbocharged July 15, 2009 Share July 15, 2009 Property agent has the potential to make good money but it's not for everyone. I know because I'm one of the "80%". Basically you need: - Good people relations. Essentially willing to 'suck up' and do monkey work. - Can multi task and have lots and lots of contacts. - Willing to give up most of your typical 'free' time. Because people see house during evenings and weekends, so can say bye bye to parties etc. - And yes, luck. But if you're willing to stick it out, monthly earning of minimum 5k is no problem. Kotila Clutched July 15, 2009 Share July 15, 2009 It depends on the volume of sales. If the numbers of housing sales is low, may not be that good.

Sugar Neutral Newbie July 15, 2009 Author Share July 15, 2009 thanks guys. He was saying very confidently that his friend said he can easily make 20k a month. I knew that wasnt possible for the average agent but i lazy to argue with him coz he is all excited about becoming an agent and making a quick buck. I knew that wasnt possible for the average agent but i lazy to argue with him coz he is all excited about becoming an agent and making a quick buck. why not? Many agents earn 5 figures a month. But its not about the money.. Its about the passion. And its not fast money.. It takes time to cultivate.
