Parking Accident Need Advise

When I was back to collect my car in public carpark, saw a note left on windscreen, said accidentally scratch (with some slight dent) my car while parking. Left contact on the note, and I called him which he's willing to pay for the repair. Arranged to meet at my usual workshop next week and he agreed.

Many questions came to my mind,

1. What if he play me out, last minute don't turn out?

2. Disagreement on the repair cost. Assume he think my workshop is quoting too expensive, and his prefer workshop may not do a good job. Or he may not think is necessary to re-spray, remove the dent, polishing is good enough.

3. Any law that can protect my interest?

4. Do I need to inform my insurance?

I only got his contact number and nothing else. I'm very sure I parked my car properly on the legal parking lot.

Thank you.

You're lucky. My previous experience was the driver hit and run. My bumper had huge scratches and was slightly dented. [shakehead]

When at the workshop, get him to agree on the price estimated by the technician before proceeding for the repair lor. And since he is paying for it, then no need to inform insurance. If he dun agree to pay, then inform your insurance and claim him. [laugh]

Infact you should thank him for writing you that note. He could have just hit and run. He is a gentlemen.

You're lucky, that's all I can say. Just keep the note handy. The fact the he left the note there means he has no intention to play you out in the first place lah. BUT of course, the onus is on you to make a resonable claim on him if he offers to pay for the damage and not "rob during fire". If he finds that your workshop charges too expensive, let him negotiage directly with your workshop on the price lor, anyway he's the one paying.

I get lots of hit and run scars on my ride, but never a note to claim responsibility.

Tell him you will get three quotes from three workshops of your choice and let him choose which of the three he wishes to fix your car at.

The fact that the other driver is man enough to admit to his mistake and not run off is something that should be paid by with equally good intention.

If I were you and the damage isn't costly, and he really did show up and showed sincerity, I'll just forget about the cost and make friends with him. Such sincere and honourable men are hard to find nowadays.

Small matter why TS wanna ask so many questions like typical KS locals? Protect interests can always ask our CASE to protect......they're always protecting our consumers interests. [laugh]

Agreed with most bros here. If everything goes well, suggest you make frens with him and buy him dinner. It's cheaper than him running off without a note and you paying for the repair yourself. Indeed a honourable man.

Thanks for all the advise. Frankly I do appreciate that he's willing to compensate, and why I have these thought probably because this is the 1st time I encounter this kind of incident (even with > 20yrs of driving experience), and try to search the forum for similar case but none (maybe I didn't search detail enough). At least I pour out my doubts now rather than leave them unanswered, makes me feels better.

Of course worst case of hit & run I will have to fork out the money myself, or leave it as it is and fell the pain everytime I see my car..... [bigcry]

Thanks for the advise from all again, I know what to do [rolleyes]
