In my opinion, it look like to be the radiator issue. Advice is don't keep topping up with water.....Coolant equally important but the proportion of coolant and water is best attended to by a workshop mechanic. Let me know if you need a second opinion. Pisces69 6th Gear December 9, 2009 Share December 9, 2009 on this topic, how much beneficial is it to use Coolant compared to just water for the radiator? ================ Coolant is to protect the system. Helps lubricate & prevent rust. Use 40-50% coolant mix with distilled water for SG climate sud b fine. Check the coolant botttle 1st if its pre-mixed or concentrate. For pre-mixed, usually its 50-50% so u just add in & no need to mix with water. Also check that the coolant is suitable for your car & the same type as what u r using now. Nowadays got so many different types of coolant, it becomes quite confusing at times. The colour is a guide as to if its the same type. Different colour u sud not mix. Same colour, u still have to confirm its the same type just to b 100% sure.
SporeHongkong Neutral Newbie December 9, 2009 Author Share December 9, 2009 bought mine at 3.30 a btl..green coloured solution..pour in whole can n add on water..but now slight leak from bottom of car again..hai..dont know wat happened..
Yeobh 4th Gear December 9, 2009 Share December 9, 2009 The mech that do the troubleshooting just do not have the right tools apparently he is just doing "fishing". If he has a set of cooling system pressure tester he could have easily detect the source of leakage without much time and effort.
Yeobh 4th Gear December 10, 2009 Share December 10, 2009 If your ride is a Japanese or Asian make and model - your chance of mistake is very very slim if you use Japanese original coolant. Japanese coolant is deisgned for use with soft water where as European coolant are more for slightly hard water.

Japanese coolant is deisgned for use with soft water where as European coolant are more for slightly hard water. =============== Last time it was very safe but now even Jap cars seem to b using different types of coolant as can b seen by the different colours it comes in. My Optra uses the orange colour type which is different from the green type used by most Jap cars. Even Toyota now uses orange coolant. Some r red & some blue or green. I even saw yellow type. Now I play safe & stick to the original coolant as recommended by the manufacturer. Mixing different types of coolant can cause premature failure of the cooling system. My orange long life coolant can last abt 3-4 years. I can renew it abt the same time I need to change my timing belt, which is just nice.

Prepare for the worst, there might be a crack in ur engine block. Check the lub oil from ur dip stick if there is any water or increase in level or is milky. Previously my fren's car also like urs, each journey will drink 500ml of water.
Coder Clutched December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 hi all, any idea wats wrong cause i jus filled up engine water into water tank in morning by evening i came back wash car suprised to see almost half of the water gone..there's no leak or nothing but surely something is wrong..any comments? thks alot.. obviously, water leak. from the 1st car to my present car, never happen. 2nd car, a renault do leak a bit, but top up little bit once a week
Coder Clutched December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 any idea y awhile ago when i driving, suddenly the temp gauge shot up to almost 3/4...scared me so i stop by the side of the road..if i not wrong there were stains i presume that were from the spare radiator btl cause can see some brownish coloured water marks on the inner side of the bonnet..is it too full thats y spilled out? am afraid that wat if the temp jus kept raising when i drive long distance? those water marks is indication of water leakage! i suggest u check the radiator. for my coe renault clio, i diy took out and flush. it took 1 hrs of running water to clean inside and another half hrs to clean the external. there are loads of sands in between the plates. the return is, fuel consumption down (14km/L !) and engine is cooler. Servic Clutched December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 does ur coolant look milky? if so ur engine head gasket may be blown which will explain for the loss of coolant.. tat will imply tat u need a top overhaul if u wanna drive ur car for long and it is usually quite costly
SporeHongkong Neutral Newbie December 11, 2009 Author Share December 11, 2009 got a slight feeling might be gasket too..heard its damn costly..any idea where to get it fixed up at cheaper price cause no pt paying too much for old car..anyway will send service ctr to assess first..thks to all.. Hjteo 1st Gear December 11, 2009 Share December 11, 2009 Have you asked a workshop to do a pressure test on the cooling system to find out if the pressure is able to hold and within specs? The other thing to find out is if the thermostat is still there. In my current H. Accent, taking out the thermstat affects the system and cause water loss. Got to replace the radiator which leaked due to insufficient water level. Fixing back the thermostat fixed the whole issue and is working back to norm.
