Shemmy Clutched December 6, 2009 Share December 6, 2009 (edited) yesterday, i went down in a group with porsches, gtr, 370z, couple of minis.. Of course, it's safe. On the way back, i saw a convoy of ferraris gunning down NS on the opp side. Having said that, my friend lost a harrier there. KL also got loads of expensive cars. 1fast1 Supersonic December 6, 2009 Share December 6, 2009 Malaysian Police said 5290 units of Proton cars were stolen in the first 10 month of this year..... Almost 20 a day! And that's just Protons. I want to drive back up there, but the figures are just too troubling. Until the M'sian govt gets its head out of its arse and cracks down on crime, they will continue to lose tourist $$$. 1fast1 Supersonic December 6, 2009 Share December 6, 2009 Just for curiosity's sake, if your Singapore-rental car gets stolen up North, what are the procedures you should follow with the Malaysian Polis? And will the rental insurance fully cover it, or will there be additional penalties? How about if the car gets vandalised or stripped of parts? What about "normal" accident situations. Thanks in advance for the input, I'm thinking the only way I'm driving up North again is with a rented car.
Tigershark1976 Turbocharged December 6, 2009 Share December 6, 2009 (edited) Say an E-class? is it safe if you go alone for a short trip in the big cities? u wanna go there, u got to take a risk. No matter what car u r driving, the risk is there... from what i know from my friend most of the professional car thief; 1) steal protons and other local made car for the parts... 2) steal GPV and SUV to export to the 3rd world country like Indoneisia, Thailand, due to poor road condition there... 3) steal luxury cars to export to more developed countries The least wanted car would be korean made saloon car as the demand from oversea is low, and the demand for spare part market is not so much either.... So, car from this catagory is slightly safer over there... However, do take note that some "non-professional" car theft doesnt steal for money. They steal car for fun, or for other usage (eg: robery). There are also "amatures" stealing certain parts like sport rims, spoiler, bodykit, audio systems & etc there to fit onto their own car as well... So? if you are worried, fit your car with the best security system such as GSM 2 way alarm system and make sure that the control unit + wiring is well hidden, equip with gear shifter lock, brake lock and steering lock... still not comfortable? just rent a car if you must drive there Edited December 6, 2009 by Tigershark1976

Flyerking 3rd Gear December 6, 2009 Share December 6, 2009 yesterday, i went down in a group with porsches, gtr, 370z, couple of minis.. Of course, it's safe. On the way back, i saw a convoy of ferraris gunning down NS on the opp side. The convoy of ferraris owners were visiting the Sultan of selangor I think... its not advisable to drive up north too many times. Places like Taman Sentosa, Jusco etc, pelangis are strictly NO-no. My friends' honda city was car-jacked while he was strolling back to his car in taman sentosa last month with his family members, RIGHT in full view of at least 50 other passerbys and car-owners. No one did anything. They cannot do anything either as the car-jackers are holding parangs.
Weichien Clutched December 6, 2009 Share December 6, 2009 But a e class and a lexus. the lexus would be lesser "eye catching" right? i was told that if u drive a lexus into m'sia it would be safer as people or the robbers wouldn't think it's a expensive car. Pchmj Clutched December 7, 2009 Share December 7, 2009 Drive up north depends on where you go. To cities like johor and kl better don't. If just on the highway to genting or cameron it's safe. I find the 2 mountains very safe. Genting got many police patrol around car park. Cameron best, once I didn't wind up my driver side window, left it fully open and go to sleep. The next morning, I was shocked but nobody touch my car, everything is still there. The main car parks was full and I park at somewhere deserted at night. Dwoon 1st Gear December 7, 2009 Share December 7, 2009 Actually, more visible the better. You want to deter them..... not to have them break in and foil the attempt. The best is a highly visible steering wheel lock. Forget about those hidden 2 way alarms, GPS tracking systems, video cams and what not. And to avoid car-jacking. Best to avoid crime ridden areas like Holiday plaza area, Sentosa area..... So? if you are worried, fit your car with the best security system such as GSM 2 way alarm system and make sure that the control unit + wiring is well hidden, equip with gear shifter lock, brake lock and steering lock... still not comfortable? just rent a car if you must drive there
Carnut Clutched December 7, 2009 Share December 7, 2009 It is just a question of opportunity and demand. If you let your guard down or if the make/model of your car is on the wanted list, it does not matter much to the criminal whether your car is a luxury model or not. So long as he has ready "clients" which he could quickly dispose off, your car is pretty much gone.

The 2 way GSM alarm is good if you meet some amature who doesnt know how to disconnect it. The owner can cut the engine and activate the siren wven if the car was driven off. Hiphiphoray 6th Gear December 7, 2009 Share December 7, 2009 Park @ Genting First World car park B2 thurs to sat. Saw quite a number of spore cars there. E-class, lancers, sunnys, accords, wish. So i think have to depend on yr luck. But of course should take precautions like parking head in with wheel lock. And check yr car at least twice a day. Afterall, its genting area, they should have some form of "protection" against these syndicate. After all the Mr Lim own a Casino. ↡ Advertisement
