phone max if sign new contract around 500? a car is 100 times that amount. that of course is not considering fuel, road tax, and the other expenses that come along with the car. it's a big, big difference.

I think taking handouts from your folks is fine, esp. if they are rich. As long as you don't behave like a spoilt brat or drive recklessly on the road. Many ah-sia dunno nuts about car/owning a car and just use it cuz its free and convenient.

 

This leads to many things like poor driving skills, poor maintenance etc... which can cause a nuisance to other road users.

 

Another thing is not to hao-lian too much cuz it's not based on your own abilities. Although I know a lot of people are green-eyed monstas as well, who always use this point to diss those ah-sia.

 

Just count your blessings, enjoy the car and take good care of it.

hmm whats wrong with asking parents to buy a car when they can easily afford it? many youngster get their first car this way too.

 

i cant share the current family car because both my parents need it for work.

 

besides, all im asking for is a 2nd hand car that is affordable.

 

Easily afford it means not having the predicament of 50-50 or 70-30 breakdown....

 

But as a guy, pls have a backbone... My first car was bought by my parents but I insisted on paying them back every single cent for the car...

honestly, i feel that the main reason why my parents are not willing to buy because my dad and mom cannot come to an agreement on how much each person should contribute. its like mom say 50 50 dad say 70 30. in the end they drop the topic and the children suffer.

Ah...the Scirocco. What a nice looking car. It reminds me of those 90s era Civic hatchbacks. Would have gotten the 1.4 if not for:

 

- 4-5 months waiting time

- Poor rear view and large blind spot

- Looks a bit too fierce for me

 

Sometimes I wonder if I made the right choice to forgo it.

Haiz, when I see the car still feel very "gian". But then the rear view is really damn bad, especially when you have people squished behind.

 

Anyway, the main reason is still long waiting time. If the SE said can get <2 months, I will be showing off my new ride liao.

Seems like there are more sciroccos than polo drivers.

 

Anyway guys, how do i persuade my parents to buy another car?

I've tried almost all ways. Except telling them im thinking of getting a class 2B license. Although im kind of interested in learning a new skill but i feel its like kinda of threatening them to get me a car?

Don't bother about those replies from people whom parents are not willing to fork out money to buy expensive toys for their kids.

 

 

 

BTW, have you tried sitting down on the floor and whine about the car? do it for a few days in a row and they might just relent? then be sensible and tell them you will cut $50 of your pocket money to fund for the car.

 

this will show them that you are willing to contribute. and in front of your friend, you can also proudly tell them that you co-pay for it.

 

I wouldn't suggest you use 2B as a way to force them. not really being a good boy and hey, 2B is just for young boys. tell them your aim is a class 2 and you want a harley after that. that shd wake them up from their dream when u rev it in the morning.

People walking look up to people having ezlink card and card holder look up to car key owner. car key owner look up to those integrated car key and those with keys look up to people that don't need to hold key and got people open door to them when they WALK to their car.

From the post, it looks like the OP is a student, so I doubt he can contribute much to the upkeep. But since most of us have more humble background & pay for our own car, (& proud of it), it easy to dismiss him, but I personally don't think there is any wrong with asking parent for cars if they can afford it comfortable & wanna sayang their kid.

 

In the states, its common for parent to buy their kids a car once they got their licene, & no one will lid an eyebrow. As least, he didn't ask for an Evo, or WRX. If I am the parent, I would certainly be scared & disappove.

IMO, people in school or NS don't need to drive. They should be "paying their dues" by taking public transport. Even if I am very rich, I will not buy my kids a car at this stage. If they need a car for work reasons, I don't mind contributing but at most it will be for a modest sedan like the Altis. Getting a Scirocco is definately out of the question.
