Mcfmun Neutral Newbie April 12, 2010 Share April 12, 2010 I am sorry but if you study business - you will know that all these Fair Trade Acts and whatnots did to the business cost and more often than not, they are included in the sales price... I for one would be happy to have that protection. Peace of mind, would you not think? ↡ Advertisement
SLing 1st Gear April 12, 2010 Share April 12, 2010 No, it is not embarrassing - what is embarrassing is the failure to deliver on a GUARANTEED COE package... so if BM offers you an earlier COE for 11K top-up & they bought it from elsewhere, why wouldn't they want to explain? AFter all their doing the customer a favour. When I 1st heard this, my 1st thoughts were that they are they are trying to cheat. But then, if they are trying to cheat, they won't explain to you first that you're not going to get a $45 COE. So I guess it's fair. Am I correct to say that if the car owner intends to keep the car fro 10 years, it wouldn't matter what the paper value is? However, if you wish to sell the car earlier than 10 years, the COE value matters because it increases re-sale and/or scrap value? Which therefore follows that for people with high COE's, it's more worthwhile to scrap / sell your car early. Which then follows that in a few years from now people who bought their cars now, will sell and the COE supply will increase and the price will fall again? Icyfreakass 1st Gear April 12, 2010 Share April 12, 2010 Basically the point we are trying to make it simply that BM took in more orders than it could fulfill....BM knew about the quota cuts but chose to keep on taking in orders....this is very unethical.... The CNY promotion was essentially a gimmick to draw in customers...they had no intention of fulfilling ALL the contracts..proof? Look at the number of dis-satisfied customers.... Camrycamry 1st Gear April 12, 2010 Share April 12, 2010 So what should BM do now? NOTHING! Don't even bother to reply to the press. BM should just ignore these few cheapskates car buyers and instead BLACKLIST them forever! BM should never cave-in to their demands. A contract is a contract. If they have a case, they would have gone the legal way long ago. Instead BM should have their legal dept monitor all the postings and press defamation suits against them if necessary! For every few unhappy customers, there's thousands of happy buyers like me and my friends!

You seem to learn pretty fast. However, if you wish to sell the car earlier than 10 years, the COE value matters because it increases re-sale and/or scrap value? Which therefore follows that for people with high COE's, it's more worthwhile to scrap / sell your car early. Yes again, in general, most Singaporean change car every 3 to 5 years.
Darthkk Clutched April 12, 2010 Share April 12, 2010 Basically the point we are trying to make it simply that BM took in more orders than it could fulfill....BM knew about the quota cuts but chose to keep on taking in orders....this is very unethical.... The CNY promotion was essentially a gimmick to draw in customers...they had no intention of fulfilling ALL the contracts..proof? Look at the number of dis-satisfied customers.... sigh... This is another point you have to understand.. BM DID NOT take in more orders that it could fulfilled.. they are running a business, and of course they will like to take in as many orders as they can, as long as they know Toyota can supply them with the cars. You can only say they took in more orders that it can fulfill if the stocks of the car is only 50 and thereafter no more cars of that make will be produce anymore. But this is not the case here. And since it's common practice for BM to spread out their bidding, and from history they are able to get for their consumer, mind you this is NOT the first COE cut in the history, in fact there is a cut just in Oct but it did not affect the COE price much than., so of course their priorities will be given to those who sign gauranteed COE customer as it's their commitment to them to deliver the car first.. Guarantee. Hence what happen is out of anyone's control, which the COE rises so high. caught everyone by surprise. ALL promotions are gimmicks to draw more customers. And THEY do want to fulfill all their orders. Who run a biz in the right mind have no intention to fulfill. And so far I only see a handful of disgrunted ppl, not a lot anyway. BTW if you have read my previous posts, I drove a nissan sylphy and I am not a BM SE.

Xtrocious 1st Gear April 13, 2010 Share April 13, 2010 (edited) and this, I suppose, is because they are afraid that the value of the open Cat COE is lower than that prevailing quote premium of their category? Actually no, what happens is that the open Cat COE will "assume" the value of the COE (I think it's of the same tender) that it is replacing...so if the open Cat COE is S$22k, the Cat A COE may be just S$15k for example The LTA changed the ruling to reduce speculation cos in the past, speculators who couldn't sell their open Cat CEO would register it with a motorcycle and then scrap it immediately to get back close to the full value... But these days if speculators do the same, they will only get back what the prevailing Motorcycle COE price is... Would you car dealers rather not be burdened with having to bid on behalf of the buyer? I can't answer for car dealers (cos I am not one) but as a car buyer, I find it a hassle to do my own COE bidding... Remember that the average car buyer doesn't keep up with the fine print of the COE system because he/she only buys a car every 7 - 10 years. it's only when you get cheated that you start trying to get a crash course. The same mantra applies - do your homework Edited April 13, 2010 by Xtrocious
SLing 1st Gear April 13, 2010 Share April 13, 2010 Both in negative margin. TCM chose to honor but BM chose not to. I see people making insulting remarks at disgruntled customers etc. I have yet to see anyone calling Tan Chong Motors stupid for doing a "charitable business" If your numbers are accurate, TCM deserves praise for delivering their cars with COE's priced at 28K & taking the loss. They are honourable business men indeed Now, on what basis BM chose that 10 lucky buyers? First come first serve?........... If this is make clear, I think those who "loss" will learn their valuable lesson from their "mistake" and move on. yes, I think you are correct about this And why so?.... Shall we say, TCM acted decisively? They attempted on the first round (after receiving order) and the delivery is May. because they tried and failed. Not failed because they didn't try. COE should be 34K now? how to honor? I wouldn't be surprised if they can't deliver but at least they tried. I wonder if they warned their customers of the possibility of a top-up. Our critics can curse at us all they want about non-guaranteed packages, whether SE's promises are reliable, whether we are unreasonable etc but it's pointless relying on those same old tired arguments. It's too obvious that BM could have done things differently, could have done things better.

SLing 1st Gear April 13, 2010 Share April 13, 2010 About doing your homework............ Yes you are right that the car buyer needs to do homework. The homework the average car buyer does is to shop around different brands. Look at the different prices, specs etc Most un-suspecting car buyers will not come into MCF to read about the possible loopholes in Sales Contracts especially when they are buying from an AD. There hasn't even been much talk on MCF on this topic until now. The amount and the ferocity of the flaming of disgruntled customers surprise me. It's probably a bit too much to be a co-incidence. I wonder about the hidden agenda of some of the people here. Such is the danger of an internet forum

I wonder about the hidden agenda of some of the people here. Such is the danger of an internet forum Compare to a lot of other forum, I view MCF as of higher integrity and standard. Just because people's view is different from you, you have to say they have hidden agenda, and that ppl work for BM etc etc. If you search under keywords 'Toyota', you can see a lot of brothers here actually did post unsatisfactory, negative remarks on BM and Toyota before. So why the reaction here? because they feel you all are whining, and started to construct conspiracy theory etc etc. Let me give myself as an example, I was driving my old car for close to 8 years, and I know nuts about COE etc, i am no expert, and therefore I miss the boat in end 2008, early 2009 to change my car when the price and COE drops to all time low. I start to wake up in June, I start to do my homework, I look around for car that is whithin my budget, I read up on COE system in LTA and one motoring.com, and I register on this forum to read and to learn. And I see the COe going up, and the price of the car going up, I hesitated and waited, but alas in Oct, there is a few promotion although the COE is cut and the price goes up high as compare to the first half of the year. Mind you the COE is 4 figure value from jan to Jun 2009. I got my car at a price I am satisy with, not as low as compare to if I have got it half a year ago but good enough, as I know thee will be a further cut in COE in Apr, as it was already annouced. In fact from when I get the car to Dec, the AD keep having promotion and the price of the model of my car is cheaper by a few K with higher COE value. Did I blame the AD? no. I make the decision and I am happy with my purchase. I understand you are piss, I will if I were you, but I will only blame the bad timing, and my own bad timing of not buyng the car earlier and not point finger and comes out with all sorts of conspiracy theory. Most brothers here just want you to remember this as a lesson learn! So just be humble and move along. Edited April 13, 2010 by Darthkk

Galantspeedz Turbocharged April 13, 2010 Share April 13, 2010 Agree with Sling, I am a first timer on this forum and kenna a lot of flaming and insults and angry remarks thrown at me......but I realise this comes from a small minority.... Now I understand why nobody uses their real names like I have....*sigh* the point is... an option of a guaranteed COE was available with an additional payment of $1K. this option was not taken up.... thus seriously no one is to blame.... if you had paid the additional $1k for a guaranteed COE and COE drop to $2.... will you also complain you had been taken for a ride? your point of contention would be that BM has 90% (estimated/assumption) of the time managed to deliver the COE thus they should not have ask you to pay the $1k..... tio bo? seriously, it cuts both ways... this time you are just suay to get the short end of the stick..... if you had read the news on the COE cut and the market sentiment at that time... you should have paid the $1k. Though everyone expect a jump in price... no one expected such a steep increase... it is exactly the same when COE was $2... you know, because of the $2 COE, my colleague had to top up $3k....... If COE was $10k she would not have top up... the reason was because she bought an OPC car... and the COE+OMV does not equal to $17k thus she was shortchanged on the rebate..... if you dun understand how it works then go read up..... so should my colleague slam the AD? afterall her SE did not mention to her about the possiblity of topping up... but when she ask me, i told her, you can;t blame the SE.. no one expected COE at $2... lets be rational and not be overcomed by a missed chance to gain some money or save some money instead ↡ Advertisement
