Vroomtattat 2nd Gear June 8, 2010 Share June 8, 2010 SMRT says staff mistook graffiti on train for advert By Imelda Saad | Posted: 08 June 2010 1844 hrs SINGAPORE: SMRT has explained why there was a lapse of two days before a police report was made about the train that was vandalised with graffiti. The company said its staff noticed the graffiti on the train on 17 May but did not sound the alarm as it was done artistically and they mistook it for an advertisement. The alarm was raised two days later on 19 May at 4pm by maintenance staff when the train was recalled to the workshop for scheduled maintenance. A police report was made then and investigations led to a discovery of the security breach at Changi depot. SMRT said it immediately reviewed security measures in all its depots. The number of security personnel and patrols at each depot has increased, and security personnel instructed to step up their vigilance. Moving ahead, SMRT said it will improve visibility along the entire perimeter of the Changi depot, which spans 3 kilometres. The fence will also be reinforced with barbed coiled wires at the base. The number of security cameras will also be more than doubled. There will be additional cameras installed at areas where the trains are launched daily at the depot. - CNA/ir http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1061853/1/.html WHY the SMRT staff so blur one? If they see a time bomb, will they think that it is a clock radio? ↡ Advertisement
Vroomtattat 2nd Gear June 8, 2010 Share June 8, 2010 than we should reward this guy for volunteer himself to test the security system, and who is responsible for the security flaw?? The commuters?? Why so many see but never report? Nevermind, later I get my train driver to jam brake then everyone will wake up.
Agalvilaku 2nd Gear June 8, 2010 Share June 8, 2010 SMRT staffs thought it as advt, good joke. I wonder, security staff at MRT Stations randomly stop people to check their bags, that too stopped when you are really running for the train in the morning busy time. People can argue that this is one off slackness from SMRT side, but, the truth is how many genuine attempts have been made to break their security? In Airports around the world, Air marshalls have been deployed to test the security process, any such practise has been followed by SMRT. Though may not be practicle to test it in mrt stations, at least, they can test their own staff's vigilance in their depots!! We should be grateful to him for exposing the weakness in our system and should release him with no punishment.
SimonTan 2nd Gear June 8, 2010 Author Share June 8, 2010 U know what? The news report said this Swiss guy LEFT Singapore after he did the deed. He already got the escape route planned! I wonder what the heck did he come back again! So stupid of him to come back and get caught, or was he smug that he got away with it and is safe to return? Now the other Brit better have no property or assets in Singapore, of maybe CPF or working contracts. For sure the Brit is going to forsake everything and NOT step into Singapore for the rest of his life anymore. Lots of interesting details about this case.....SMRT taichi the blame to the security firm......and I think the guards on suu that night will be sacked and case closed! The lowest head will roll. Parkingidiot 1st Gear June 8, 2010 Share June 8, 2010 The commuters?? Why so many see but never report? because police will ask them to fark off and make magistrate report, and don't bother the police unless it's an elite involved.

Albeniz Turbocharged June 8, 2010 Share June 8, 2010 Side-trek a bit. Any news of Michael Fay recently. Has he grown up to be a better person after the cane dosage we prescibed to him?
Albeniz Turbocharged June 8, 2010 Share June 8, 2010 It seems that the other British have his graffiti work on a lot of trains in many other countries, not just Singapore. If each country were to give him a few strokes of the cane, can't imagine his badly torn backside.

CH_CO 6th Gear June 10, 2010 Share June 10, 2010 (edited) The security issue is no joke but if you really wanna infiltrate these places , even the whole place full of people also still can go in one. Done it before. 1k++ people guarding an air base , let us go in , steal the uniform , password , stick explosive sticker under their helicopters , under their chief chair (which they denied) and come out from the main door. It is just a matter of whether if want or not nia. But for amateurs to be able to do , this is seriously worrying. Billyone Neutral Newbie June 14, 2010 Share June 14, 2010 (edited) A friend sent me this (circulating in the net) and I do not have a link anybody have a link to verify please Tuesday, June 8, 2010 Seriously? Who says Singapore does not have a sense of humor? 32 year-old Oliver Fricker, a Swiss business consultant, was charged in court with breaking into a Singapore MRT depot and spray-painting graffiti on a train. Mr. Fricker’s passport was impounded and bail was set at a ridiculous $100,000. Now a Briton, Lloyd Dane Alexander, is suspected to be an accomplice of Mr. Fricker and is sought by Singapore . Problem is Mr. Alexander is in Hong Kong at the moment and Singapore is going to extradite him from Hong Kong . Yes, Singapore is going to extradite a man for vandalism! People in Indonesia must be laughing their guts out when they hear this. There are over 10 Indonesian millionaires currently living in Singapore who are wanted by Indonesia for various corruption charges but Singapore has constantly refused to extradite them back to Indonesia . Now Singapore wants to extradite a man from Hong Kong for vandalism! Is vandalism more serious than corruption? In Singapore , that seems to be the case. Who says Singapore does not have a sense of humor?
