Ghostami 2nd Gear August 2, 2010 Share August 2, 2010 For those who own Kia, go read your manual. Singapore driving is considered driving under severe driving conditions. 1) Repeated short driving distance driving 2) Extensive use of brakes 3) Extended periods of idling or low speed operations 4) More than 50% driving in heavy city traffic during hot weather above 32DegC. If under such conditions, it is recommended that oil change to be 7500km. ↡ Advertisement

Try_conti 2nd Gear August 2, 2010 Share August 2, 2010 When u change engine oil juz pour in together ( oil treatment ) C@rlube Engine Oil Treatment is a concentrated blend of high performance additives and shear stable polymer formulated to provide extra protection for petrol and diesel engine oils. Specifications:Increases protection, Reduces Oil Consumption Petrol treatment is to pour into the petrol tank where u pump petrol C@rlube Petrol Treatment has been specially formulated to promote maximum fuel system efficiency in all petrol engines including injection and carburettor systems. Specifications: Improves fuel economy, reduces emissions. Engine Flush is to be poured into engine oil compartment when u are about to drain out the old oil yr oil let it idle for 15 mins then drain & fill in new oil together with the oil treatment. C@rlube Engine Flush quickly breaks down sludges and deposits which can otherwise remain in the engine, causing rapid deterioration of the new oil. Specifications: Cleans engine interior,Removes harmful deposits Decided to give the oil treatment a try since its free and I'm about to do oil change tomorrow. Put it into the engine on Sunday. 1st thing I noticed is that the stuff is pretty thick and 'gooey'. Much thicker than CLTR EO. The engine was much quieter than usual after running for a couple of minutes. Not much change in temperature. However, my fuel consumption for the past 2 days went up. From the usual 9+/10 l/100km to 10+/11 l/100km ... No change in my daily driving habits and did not detour from the normal route that I take. Better get rid of it tomorrow with the oil change .... Still have one free bottle when I bought the CLTR from Giant on Sat. Anyone wants it ? free .....

I think the primary purpose of the CLTR oil treatment is a viscosity improver and some stuff in there to aid in the prevention of shearing and oxidation. Same goes for the Schaeffer Moly EP treatment. If you've tried that before, it's also super thick compared to regular EO.

Same goes for the Schaeffer Moly EP treatment. If you've tried that before, it's also super thick compared to regular EO. I believe Schaeffer Moly EP does more than simply thicken up engine oil. The additive from oil analysis seems pretty weak and low on moly, but its strength is antimony and base fluids. Although by itself it seems pretty thick, but once dosed into engine oil it does not increase the viscosity much. There are recommended dosage mentioned in BITOG, don't put in too much. Octopus 3rd Gear August 3, 2010 Share August 3, 2010 The X1R has some results showing its good for gearbox as well. But its gone from the market all of a sudden and now the new X1R does not contain that friction reducing mix anymore. Wonder why. A quick search show that X1R has a few type of products. Which one you refering to? http://www.x1r.com/msds.htm
Tianmo Hypersonic August 3, 2010 Share August 3, 2010 hmm..............................just my fedback looks like this CLTR 5w40 shear down pretty fast. after I changed my spark plugs and plugs cables, FC has been very steady at about 145km a tank of gas, but that is with my petrol full tank. Took the car for a ride to BP and back in 4 hours last week, drove at 130km/hr for 1.5hr, break and came bk, after that FC improve to 158km for a few tanks, but this is with petrol now at 3/4 tank. the oil has so far traveled a little more than 3000km in a month, yesterday morning feel that engine getting a little rough, this morning check, oil has turned brown and looks thicker but flows faster leh. maybe have to change at 4000km liao, which is next week. Genie47 1st Gear August 8, 2010 Share August 8, 2010 Actually the gearbox runs as much as your engine, but we constantly change engine oil more than the gearbox or atf. We need friction reducing agent in engine, why not for gearbox? But this Friction reducer gone for sometime, wonder why. The other thing is that the transmission lubes don't face the hostile conditions the engine faces. Not just heat but also combustion products. So the lubes in the transmissions will last a lot longer.
Genie47 1st Gear August 8, 2010 Share August 8, 2010 The proper Saab ATF (OE or Mobil 3309 ATF) is very difficult find and expensive in Singapore. I heard even Unico get their stock from TE parts. Of course if one is adventurous there are some that will even try the Toyota TIV (black tin) in the 9-5 auto tranny. The power steering fluid CHF11S is also a !@#$% to find ... finally came across it at Spark Motorsports ... after I sold the car. I'm late in this thread. Yes those Pentosin fluids are very rare.
