hey guys, it seems like my CLTR engine oil shear down pretty fast, floor acclerator on my liteace diesel van, the van like no energy to charge forward. pick up a bit sluggish at times.

did some readup and decide to go for the following diesel engine oil

spc sdm 800, mobil delvac, castrol RX diesel, but no idea if local stockist had them.

Those mineral Delvac 15w40 or Castrol RX with CI-4 or CI-4+ rating would be a good choice, pretty cheap too if you buy in 20L pail packaging. Forklift at Serangoon should have it, check it there.

ok will go there and check out forklift enterprise, but would like to ask regarding mineral oil.

If i used mineral oil do i have to change it at 5k interval or i only change when the oil is black?

Sorrie if i ask too much still a newbie.

No worries, diesel oil can last more than 10k km, no need change at 5k.

whats the diff?

I have tried SHU and CLTR but not Schaffar (maybe wrong spelling).

SHU gives me a very rough feeling when I drive. Not smooth and no power. Drained out after 5k mileage.

Tried CLTR and so far it was quite smooth for me. I did not experience any roughness too.

ok wats the viscosity of the oils?

experience with shell that it tends to burn off quite easily with hard driving....but for relaxed driving it does wonders for fuel consumption....i think....could be a placebo effect....

you got the full names for SHU and CLTR?

Viscosity is 5W40. My car is more than 3 years and hitting 94k mileage.

SHU = Shell (the one you are using)

CLTR = C_rl_be Triple R

anyone knows which place is selling c@rlube for $30?

Giant selling but @$59.90.

the $59.90 you saw is the light blue label 5W30 GM oil.

the <$30 we talking about here is the red label 5W40 oil., easy to see, it is pack with oil treatment or engine treatment.

all giant and ntuc xtra have, but I think stock running low.

Actually, engine oil is very very cheap to make...... Most of the $$$ in the price tag goes to marketing and paying the CEO/high ranking people in the company.

As for research..... don't even need to do anything. Just buy the base stock from oil companies (I seen barrels of Shell/Mobil etc oil in Tuas before) and add your own additive package. Don't want to develop your own? Get from companies like Lubrizol lor.

Of course, I am not saying that cheap oil is fantastic stuff and everyone should go for it. I have personally tried c-----e. Its pretty decent but it doesn't last as long compared to Amsoil.

I do concur with you that engine oil is cheap (mineral-based or otherwise). However, some people prefer to imagine paying more means paying for better quality oil. Really it is the lack of engine oil that is more critical (one ex-Employer's Mercs always towed to do servicng for that reason). Next, is the oil filter being partially blocked/choked and lubrication failure like lack of engine oil. Some car will show low oil pressure if the engine oil filter is not replaced at every 10,000km servicing regardless of engine oil replenished (cheap or expensive brands the same visual alert on the dashboard light up)

So the more people imagine, the more they pay (happily of course). Most engine oil can be used for at least 10,000km before replenishment is needed (it is the oil filter performance that may fail after 10,000km). The engine oil filter is usually much cheaper than the engine oil needed. So do not buy expensive engine oil and not replace the cheaper oil filter which is more important than the engine oil prices
