Picanto 3rd Gear July 4, 2010 Share July 4, 2010 why does your engine oil need such additives?
Tom_kkh 1st Gear July 4, 2010 Author Share July 4, 2010 maybe le me rephase. saw those selling at autobac that claims to furthe protect yr engine if u mix them with yr engine oil. some supposed to make yr engine smoother or better wear protection. not those that pours into the fuel tank
Weiming 1st Gear July 4, 2010 Share July 4, 2010 I think the most important thing is to use a good quality engine oil and change it as your servicing schedule dictates. If you are planning on keeping your vehicle for the long term or the vehicle is old (like mine), you can use Auto-Rx. Very well regarded on BITOG (Bob Is The Oil Guy) forums. I am using it on the maintenance dose as my engine has just been completely re-built.
5936 1st Gear July 4, 2010 Share July 4, 2010 Additive or no additive does not really make a dig difference to me. More important is the quality synthetic EO. as in my case svc interval is 15K. Most additive's effect is either cannot be quantify, or felt, or only short term. I think all burn off after a while, or maybe i got thick skin cannot feel But occassionally, out of curiosity I still add in. Just to make me feel good. I will add in the Engine treatment and not EO treatment. Some of them are not cheap too. I wonder if it's logical to buy additive or just go for oil change instead... as some of this anti wear additives are already blended in the EO. If you want to add, try this tech stuff. Can get from AutoB_c @ $70+ "CERA TEC is a high-tech ceramic wear protection product for all motor oils. CERA TEC reduces friction and wear due to ceramic compounds that withstand extremely high chemical and thermal loads. Prevents direct metal-to-metal contact, thus increasing the engine service life. The low-friction effect reduces fuel consumption in gasoline and diesel engines. Sufficient for 5 liters of motor oil". from Liqui Moly. Advice: Check and make sure the Additives are not Engine flush or Leak Repair.. These may seize up engine..... Have fun and enjoy your experiment. Tom_kkh 1st Gear July 5, 2010 Author Share July 5, 2010 hey guys, thanks for the replies. Ya, i am looking more into engine protection rather than for increase in BHP. The only way my car can go fast is to change it I know I will not feel the difference, just want to have additional protection. whether it works or not is another question. Just hoping to have more protection to the engine...

5936 1st Gear July 5, 2010 Share July 5, 2010 You also tried that. They dont display at the additive shelf. it's like a sacred item to them. Kept with the cashier. Maybe they had bad experience loosing them. For me I just put for the sake of putting it. Can feel the effect for a while. You maybe right that it can be felt from engines with higher mileage.
