Boys always enjoy pushing machine to the limits but factory wants to make something that last.

I thought MTBF just gets shorter and shorter these days [laugh]. Nothing last forever, at certain point, one still have to change/replace parts to make the car stay reliable.

I think pushing the machine without modding is still more fun than spending countless hours, dumping money and live with the uncertainty of voiding warranty and part reliability [laugh].

Just my 2 cents worth.

MTBF for some products are by time, not by mileage. Good examples are Nike shoes. Even at very, very low mileage, kept in the shoe rack 99% of the time, after some time the soles will come off. [laugh]

[laugh] That happened to my pair of seldom worn old Nike Air bought 20 years ago (The sole became ashes and dust!). Thought of passing down to my son :D . These days, I don't buy expensive sneakers anymore.

if you want to mod

do it with a reliable tuner.

eg. Jap car use HKS

Merc use kleemann (like me) or Brabus (if u are rich) or Renntech

BMW use Hamann?

Audi use MTM?

dont go using a one size fits all solution.

These tuners use parts engineered to a level as high as OEM!

And buying a PI car with an outside workshop will ensure ur wty is okay

Warranty void when I changed the rim, thats MI. B4 they recall for ECU flush, I did complaint about their set up after seeing my friend tune his car for better FC and power. Think they mess produce and lack of R&D b4 release to customer.

Factory sometime do cut corner and get max gain and profit, end up we kana all these recall.

Gone were those days, I would wait patiently for the cars to be tuned and modded [:p] . Not all Jap cars used HKS.

You mean changed rim, warranty void? Obviously Singaporean drivers' interests are not being protected from all these ADs [laugh].

Yalor, so ridiculous. IMHO, among the Japs' ADs, Honda is the most flexible.

u so smart, u should work for car manufacturers. car manufacturers spend millions and years on R&D lose to u also.

aiyo... nothing to do with me lah...

The objective of most car manufacturers is to produce a car that can be mass-produced. So they have to be conservative and not be too aggressive in their tuning of the cars.

We don't really see it in Singapore, but certainly in countries like Japan, millions and years on R&D are spent by tuners (like HKS, Spoon, Jun, and Amuse) who work to get the most out of individual cars.

Manufacturers themselves have set up tuning shops to tune their own cars for better performance. e.g. Nismo (for Nissan), Ralliart (for Mitsubishi), TRD (Toyota), Mugen (Honda), etc. But these tunes are not for the general population of cars that they produce.

So yeah, even manufacturers themselves recognise the benefits of custom tuning...

anyone agree with me ? - i am talking about normal mods like vs, air filter and ecu etc

Through the years i have tried this mod and that mod.

yes there are performance improvements but on a cost to benefit ratio, its not worth it. 2k-3k to get 10 bhp more ? for 5k one could already get a slightly better car model

one mech i spoke with said stock is best in terms of maintenance and etc

i think he is right, the factory engineers have already figured out the best combination for the car.

any thoughts or am i truly wrong.

==============

Hahaha. Same like me.

I tried this & that but in the end I feel that stock is the best for long term reliability & low running cost of the car.

Even the spare parts I get r all Original or OEM parts. And I stay away from anything made in China.

Mine is an Optra so I go for either Korean or Jap parts if avaliable. Otherwise can still use Thai parts if no choice.

Funny though cos when I got my parts to change the timing belt, several parts were made in places like Canada, US & other countries I now forget. But these were all Original GM parts. I wud think they wud b made in Korea or Thai mainly.

How about size of the rim? Did you keep within the original specs?
