The 2 views I am making is from a price point perspective, and not a car comparison.

a. For the price point of 130K, one can get a Camry with some money to spare, and I did not mention anything about a better drive.

b. For the price point of 130K, one can also get a 2.4l 145, with more money to spare which offer a better drive.

apologies, my bad nvr read properly

this k5 looks good, i have yet to test drive it, like i45 and k5, i dont really care abt the brand, as long as its not china/malaysia.

When i bought my lancer back in 2007, i told myself, minimum a made in japan car, anything other than japan, i will not buy. conti are too ex, korean, malaysia , china made cars never interest me,

4 years down the road, with the increasing number of hyundai and kia cars on the road, it make me realise actually koreans are coming in faster than i expect and with the recent models, i really feel that they package their ride nicer than the japs who are coming out with boring models, some just a minor facelift and they are expected to sell well cos they are japanese and ppl will buy.

i feel koreans cars are on par with japanese cars now, for me now minimum at least a korean or a japanese(depending on which appeals to me 1st, i like the cars to look fresh, good, and not the boring old design) so in this case, the koreans will definitely win the jap this time round.

k5 and i45 either one will become my future ride, not buying at the moment is because i do not want to contribute to the minister's high pay! if u buy now, its like telling them, im rich, i have nothing against your policy, i will pay for this COE so that it will contribute to your salary!

The Koreans aren't competing with the Japanese now. They're competing with the Europeans now!!

The japanese have long lost the competition in automobile.

Yup, that is right, I agree and will rather hold back. Some will say COE will never be back to the 10-20k level. Don't say never, anything can happen.

with the ever increasing petrol price - 6 speed auto i45 or k5, i believe if we can save on the petrol, its a winner, if maintenance will be cheaper than jap or conti cars, its even better! save save save n more savings.....

that should be the way all along.

they had been going the wrong route in trying to match up with Jap interms of pricing hence loss out on quality plus lousier FC.

Aiming against conti they will ensure that their car will have quality to match the jap or even surpass it plus more. [thumbsup]

I think if COE wld to go back to the 10-20K price range, there shld be a sudden urge in the number of cars deregistered, or govt suddenly release a huge number of COE quota. If not dont think the COE will fall back to 10K mark. [rolleyes]

haha never say never, u justin biber fan ah....

Haha, nope.

Truth is, at the moment, nobody can compete with the Europeans in the luxury market.

At this moment no Japanese and Korean can beat the badge appeal of a BMW, Merc, Audi, Jag, Porche, Maserati, Ferrari, Lambo, Aston, etc.

This is what we call badge appeal. I laughed my socks out when some people say that people buy Toyota and Honda due to badge appeal. Ask yourself what comes to the minds of buyers of Japanese BnB cars. Resale, low maintenence and fuel economy, right? That makes Jap cars just like the Koreans in that cost is still a main deciding factor, only difference is that the Koreans offer better value, features and designs now. generally.

The typical Jap BnB car is far more reliable and economical than Euro luxury brands. If you have owned any of those luxury brands you will know how high their maintenence costs are not to mention they are more likely to break down than a simple Jap or Korean econo box. Badge appeal is beyond all these practical factors. Badge appeal is all about status and that is what the Jap and Koreans do not have.

Just recently, I saw a Evo10 intimidating an Audi A5 2.0T. The Evo10 tailgated the Audi and when there is overtaking space, it cut into the next lane and floored the gas and made a lot of noise from its lorry-sized exhausts and left the Audi in the dust. Just what is the driver of the Evo 10 trying to prove? That his much cheaper tin can is much faster? It is faster and everybody knows that and there's no need for such cheap acts. In fact an Evo 10 can even beat an S5 but so what? The chap who owns the Audi can buy an Evo10 anytime and still have change but I am sure he doesn't even want to have a second look at an Evo10.

If I have the budget of S130k! I will not take any Jap or korea brand. I will simply add 30k to get the new 1.6L S80.

If you can add 30k, then strictly speaking your budget is not 130k. [dizzy]

Actually, the Koreans engineering is up there with the best. It's just that, they're slow to introduce their new technologies.

I believe, they're adopting the wait and see attitude on what the Japanese and Europeans [especially the Germans/ French] are doing.
